Colleagues recommended the previous version of rooCASE for Nexus 7, and just as I was making my mind up that protection and function were more important than a light, svelte cover, rooCASE comes out with this slimmed down version. Bravo! I love it.
As you'll see in my video, it's very slim and form fitting, by using a minimum of material and a maximum of ingenuity. It does stand up in both "shallow" and "deep display positions,[1] but I keep my tablet on an elago P2 Stand (Black) so this feature wasn't as critical for me. I wanted a slim case for carrying it between meetings, with reliable sleep and wake functioning using the Nexus 7's magnetic sensor. It does that stunningly, as you can see in my video.
What I can't mention enough is that the synthetic leather feels a lot like soft, glove-tanned cowhide (or lambskin). It's soft, warm, with a pleasing texture. If it wasn't for the bonded seam, I'd have mistaken for soft top-grain cowhide.
Take a look at my video, and if you like what you see, I suggest you order it without hesitation. I'm very, very happy with mine.
[1] ADDENDUM: My initial video review (available for a day) claimed that it wouldn't stand securely in the "steep" position -- I was mistaken. After examining the product pics, I see now how they make it work in the "steep" position, by folding the front cover back right at the opening for the tablet. So my bad, my video review demonstration was in error. Personally, I'd prefer NOT to fold the cover back at that point as it might stress the sewn seams. It doesn't diminish the case at all in my eyes, it's still a superior Nexus 7 case, looking like a case that cost twice as much.

This case looks nice. Build quality is quite nice as well, and looks like it will hold up fine. The nexus fits in quite snugly and all ports/buttons are still accessible.
The case does "wake" the device when the flap is lifted, as well as "sleeping" it when closing.
It does prop up the device(only in landscape view) at a few different angles due to some velcro, but I wonder if this might make the inside cover look terrible after a while due to the soft side being torn by the velcro.
I have noticed that the speaker is quite muted while in this case, and also its kind of bulky. It probably triples the thickness of the nexus 7.
Overall, for 15 bucks this probably wont be beat by anything in a similar price range. It looks and feels nice. I would like it to be a little skinnier, but I would recommend it for anyone wanting a protective case for their nexus 7.

I ordered this case yesterday and had it overnighted so my Nexus 7 would be covered. The case's build quality is superb and well above the $15 price, but I have a few issues with the case. For one it is way to thick for my taste's. One reviewer said that the case triples the thickness on the N7 and they were not kidding, but some may like the thickness and protection it adds. My second issue is with the cutout for the screen. It is not aligned perfectly with the N7 and is so close on the left side that it hinders my ability to use the keyboard. Also, the stylus holder is in the worst spot and prevents me from easily pressing the power or volume keys.
The smart feature works great and overall the case feels well, but I will be returning this due to the two issues I had as I consider them to be nonnegotiable.
