Dr. Edelin's book is an excellent read. As a lawyer, I found the legal maneuvering and the courtroom scenes riveting. As a romance author and reader, I found his writing lyrical. The descriptions of his childhood experiences that made him into the man he became were touching. This book reads like a novel. It is a page-turner, and I'm so glad that he shared his story--lest we forget.

I had the honor of meeting Dr. Edelin a few years ago when my daughter was his student. He was so gracious and caring about his students and his profession that is it hard to believe that he had endured such a galling experience.

Dyanne Davis has penned a faith-based and timely story of the toll the Iraq war takes on a couple's marriage. We are reminded that it's not just the soldier whose life is affected by serving during wartime, but also the spouse. The writer exposes the range of emotion a returning soldier might experience, including anger, pride, guilt, and even a death wish. And it lasts long after the Welcome Home parties.

The story contains a strong conflict, and a satisfying resolution. Kudos to Dyanne Davis!

Williams-Wheeler's book is a plain English guide to everything a teen needs to know if they become pregnant. It encourages girls to educate themselves, decide on an option, and act without delay in a situation that could easily be paralyzing. It opens with how to determine whether you are pregnant, then moves to who to tell--and who not to.

The book is comprehensive, giving all the options for dealing with teen pregnancy, and a step-by-step guide through each. It also covers after-care for each option, then stresses preventing a subsequent pregnancy--from abstinence to all other forms of birth control. Each chapter contains stories from girls who have experienced pregnancy--from age 12 - 22. Some were heart-rending. I appreciate that Williams-Wheeler urges girls to continue their education and to take care of their bodies.

An excellent resource for a girl in a bad situation.

Sylvia Lett has crafted a story that is a good read for teenage girls--and their mothers.

Three girls whose tight friendship has been torn asunder are reunited one fateful night. Seeking solace, each finds her way to the abandoned treehouse where they had spent countless hours as children. There, each girl reveals the impact of a bad decision involving sex. Although each has a different situation, the impact on each is devastating and life-threatening. There's no fairy-tale ending, but one that shows how each girl was able to triumph and grow.

Whether we like it or not, our girls are being exposed to sexuality at earlier ages. This book is a timely and ideal vehicle to open frank, and often difficult, discussions with our girls. It provides life lessons without being preachy.

This was the most fun book I've read in a while. There were times I found myself laughing out loud. Many others, a knowing smirk. Maybe it should have been billed as a romantic comedy.

No need to go into the plot, as others have already done that. I concede it wasn't the best mystery ever written, and that I really didn't give a hoot about the dead editor, but the characters felt real and I liked Alexa. Perhaps because I write romantic suspense for the 'marvelously mature,' I enjoyed this story about a mature, professional woman finding romance.

The Reparations Act has set aside territories within the United States to which Blacks are free to immigrate. Applicants are screened for a willingness to work to better themselves, and no sloth is tolerated by the neighborhood councils. Housing, jobs and education are freely available--indeed mandatory. This would-be utopia is financed by contracts with the United States for the territories to house and 're-claim' prisoners. Ten years later, New Liberia has prospered so well, that it is under attack by the very U.S. Congress that created it.

The protagonist, a young man who grew up in New Liberia, risen to the rank of top aide to the most powerful government official there. Documents he discovers relating to the prison contract have the potential to destroy his boss, himself, and New Liberia.

Professor Gregory tells a powerful and compelling story of a world supposedly free of racism, yet subject to the vagaries of human nature.

Lindsay has captured the essence of the mystery genre with a hard-edged, fast-paced story in a Black, urban setting. What passes for romance is a little weird, but perhaps that's the way it is from the male point of view. The sex is sizzling hot, though. I've recommended it to all my reading friends--and bought it for several.

Anyone who doubts the importance of fathers and the influence they have on our lives should read this book. The book is a compilation of interviews Mr. Pitts conducted with a number of Black men on their relationships with their fathers. It is interspersed with his observations, which, as usual for this syndicated columnist, are especially acute. The common thread is pain, and some of the interviews are absolutely heart-wrenching. However, the book ends on a hopeful note with Mr. Pitts prescriptions for how to stem this tide of pain and anger that surely affect us all.
