It was a beautiful spring morning. The birds were singing in every bush; leaves and blades of grass were sprouting and everywhere small creatures were flying and crawling and working. Findus ran around scaring beetles. Old man Pettson was standing in the vegetable patch looking at and feeling the soil. "Now's the right time", he said. "Today we shall sow vegatables and set potatoes." But Findus was of another opinion as to what the vegetable-patch should be used for. The hens too and even the cows wanted a say in the matter. Sven Nordqvist is a genius. Findus is a charming little cat and Pettson is his old man companion (most people would call him the "owner" of the cat, but Findus speaks and is NOT your typical cat!). They have great adventures and all is illustrated by beautiful, whimsical, colorful art work. You have to look very carefully to see all the little details.
My first Findus book of his was one written in Swedish, but you could understand the story perfectly well because of his beautiful illustrations. Since then I have discovered many of his Findus and Pettson books have been translated into English and I'm trying to collect them all. I highly recommend these books to anyone - children and adults who appreciate beautiful illustrations and charming stories.

Our family reads a lot and loves books, but any books about Pettson and his cat Findus are some of our favorites. We discovered them when spending a summer in northern Sweden (Pettson and Findus live in Sweden). The story line is great, but the pictures tell many more stories within the bigger story. Have fun!

Pettson and Findus was one of my favourite books during my childhood and today I prefer reading it in English (I'm German)
Every time you read the book you'll discover another detail in the illustrations, which aren't comparable to other books. They are veritable treasure of wit and charm. The stories contain always a message and are so whimsical, captivating and fun! Acting for your children while reading the book aloud will be an amusement. It doesn't matter which book of Pettson and Findus you buy. They are all fantastic and the stories are not a question of sex. Both boys and girls will enjoy the stories. It's very sad that not every book is available in English... (By the way.. I need to read the Christmas story aloud every Christmas eve (to my mum and my grandma..So you see... adults like the books too- do yourself a favour and buy a book which you AND your child like and you won't have the feeling of being forced to read it over and over again (by your child)) Buy them all! Can't praise them enough! Definitely recommend them all!
