Lock Out Tag Out
Lock out tag out, sometimes referred to as lockout tagout (LO/TO), are safety procedures that use safety devices and tags to help keep areas and people safe in research, industry, and other environments. Lock out tag out devices use color, warning labels or tags, and a physical barrier to alert people, temporarily prohibit machine operation or power activation, and reduce accidents, during maintenance or repair. A lockout tagout tag attaches to a locked device and provides instructions and information. Lockout tagout products can include safety devices that may require lock out tag out security, such as a circuit breaker, valves, plugs, cylinder tanks, gas cylinders, and an adjustable gate valve lockout tagout. A lockout tagout hasp or folding lockout scissors clamp can help provide lockout tagout security. Lockout tagout devices can come in kits that provide the ability to use lockout tagout procedures for multiple areas. Lockout tagout accessories include a clip board, belt pouch, safety tag station, lockout tagout holder, lock box, binders to hold sheets of lockout tagout procedures, a lockout station that may be wall-mounted, and a compliance center that can include zippered binders and mounting brackets. Lockout tagout procedures are commonly applied in energy source environments such as electrical, mechanical, chemical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and thermal energy. Lockout tagout security procedures may also apply in construction, agriculture, maritime, or oil and gas drilling and servicing industries. When working with hazardous energy, lock out tag out procedures are also known as isolation procedures. Lockout tagout procedures can meet standards such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and Canadian Standards Association (CSA).
