Fujitsu ScanSnap S1500M Instant PDF Sheet-Fed Scanner for the Macintosh
Used & New from: $295.00
Would this scanner work well for someone working on a family history project, or is it more geared to office/home office use?

It may. in my family history we have hundred year old bound books so a flat bed is much more useful when it comes to bound documents. as for photo and scanning multiple sheets and double sided sheets at one time the scansnap should work well. Also i found that if you buy the S1500m you CAN use it in windows and linux using Xsane :). As for your office question.... I used an older Fujitsu ScanSnap to DEATH when i worked for the US Department of the Interior. The one i used scanned more than 160 million pages before we switched to a different version of Windows and the driver ceased to work.
