4.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable therapist at work, February 19, 2003
By
Neil Friedman (Arlington, Massachusetts United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: In search of a response (Hardcover)
This book is a report of the therpay of the parents of an autistic child. The real value of the book lies in the therapist's work. Her name is Leida Berg. I was in therapy with her in the 1970s. She was the most unforgettable eprosn I ever met. This book shows a little of her at work. You can sometimes feel her fierce independence and honesty, her stripping away of conventional realities. She was an existential analyst originally from Estonia who developed her own way of doing therapy. It is to get a glimpse, a taste, a smell of her that I recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cut to the Bone, May 13, 2011
This review is from: In search of a response (Hardcover)
I was a patient of Leida Berg in the mid-70's when she was, most likely, in her mid eighties. An extraordinary person in every way, Dr. Berg cut to the bone of truth in every comment. One example is when I was lamenting the end of my marriage, wallowing in despair that my husband admitted he was gay but I still loved him, she practically shouted, "Garbage! How can you love someone who lied to you and maybe himself for so many years? There was no truth fromthe beginning! Now, talk about something else."

I never got over it. She opened my eyes to truths I might never have discovered on my own. This book shows how Leida connected with her patients on the deepest, most truthful level, challenging you to find the courage to take the next step.
