I need to take sharp pictures of my paintings with no distortion and good color. Will this lens do that?

Its a good lens so taking a picture of a painting should be fine. I would recommend you buy either the 35mm 1.8 or the 50mm 1.8 as they are prime (fixed) lenses and will provide tack sharp images of a painting. Plus they are only about 200 bucks each.
