5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money
Truly an amazing eyelash curler. I'd read all the hype, but was perfectly satisfied with my Revlon curler. Then a friend gave me an Amazon gift card, so I figured, what the heck? Let's see if this is as good as they say it is.

It's better.

I was so sad to find out that Shu Uemura pulled all of their products out of the U.S. Their eyelash curlers are by far the best ones made. When I purchased this product I was so excited that I found it for such a good price. When I received it I realized why. It was a complete knock off of the actual eyelash curler. It was flimsy and had a lot of differences from my current (authentic) eyelash curler. If you purchase one, both pads (the one in the eyelash curler and the replacement) should say Shu Uemura on the bottom. I learned that you get what you pay for and now will only order this product from Shu Uemura's website.

1.0 out of 5 stars FAKE SHU UEMURA - BUYER BEWARE, February 2, 2011

I LOVE the Shu Uemura eyelash curler. It's the best. However, this one is NOT REAL. Please do not get duped like me. I trusted amazon.com to only list genuine products. I got this in the mail promptly, and it is most definitely NOT a Shu Uemura. It was horrible quality compared to the real Shu Uemura eyelash curler that I currently own. It was completely unusable, and I sent it back for a full refund.

If you're thinking of buying this eyelash curler, just go to the shu uemura website, and you can buy it for a GENUINE one for the exact same price.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Eyelash Curler, but Not Made to Last, January 5, 2010
It took me a while to talk myself into purchasing such an expensive eyelash curler. My lashes are stick straight and heavy, which makes curling my lashes quite a challenge. For years, I used a curler I purchased at a drugstore, with little results, so I just gave up on curling my lashes. The only thing that seemed to work was when I would rest the curler on my radiator in the bathroom, which warmed it up. Then and only then would I get any kind of curl. However, this meant taking extra time that I do not have in the morning and also there is the fact that my radiators are not on in the warmer months.

If I could, I would give the Shu a 5-star rating for its ability to curl lashes and a 1-star rating in terms of practicality. If you take the median between these ratings, the Shu gets a 3-star rating in my book. Here's why:

Raves...
A year ago, I broke down and bought the Shu. I was torn between this and another, but went with this one because it received more ratings on Sephora. When I first used it, I was not impressed. In fact, it really did not give me results any different than my cheap curler from the drug store. Later, I learned that there is a technique to using this curler, which I have now figured out and I really like what this curler can do. I used the same technique on my cheap curler and though I got some curl from it, it was nothing compared to the Shu. Another positive aspect of the Shu is that its shape fits my eyes much better than others I have tried. A big plus for me is that I have not had any painful experiences curling my lashes as with cheap curlers I have had in the past. My eyes would water so bad that my mascara would run, so there was little point in curling my lashes.

Rants...
Its price is obviously high for what it is, in my opinion. I have read that the curler wears out after about 1.5 years, so you toss it and buy a new one so that you are ensured to continue to get good results. So, this curler is not designed for longevity, which is not good for people who want to go green, nor is it easy on your wallet!

The Shu comes with two pads: one that is already mounted in the curler and the other is included in the box. Be careful so as not to toss the box out before removing the replacement pad, as you cannot purchase replacement pads for this curler. Also, due to the fact there are no replacement pads available for purchase, be sure to check to box to ensure there is a pad on the curler AND a pad inside of the box! This is especially important if purchasing in an actual store as I have heard that people tend to remove pads from brand new Shu Curler boxes, simply because they are not available for purchase. To be honest, I have not tried replacement pads from other drug store brands, so I am not sure if those will fit, but it might be worth checking into. As mentioned before, I have had my Shu for just over a year and it still does a good job (I am also on my first pad and should go onto my second). However, I do not curl my lashes everyday, so this could be why it still works for me.

Final Thoughts...
The Shu does a great job curling my lashes, so I do not regret purchasing. My overall experiences with the Shu have been positive, as it has shown me that using the right tool will result in nicely curled lashes that stay curled for the day and I do not experience any painful lash curling sessions as I would with previous curlers. However, there are a few factors that will deter me from purchasing again which include the cost and design integrity. In fact, if I cannot find another high quality curler to fit my eye as well as the Shu does, I would consider purchasing the Shu again. However, I have read good things about the Shiseido curler, so I will try that one next, as it is a few dollars cheaper and replacement pads are available.

When I received this product in the mail I was shocked to find the box written entirely in chinese! I compared the curler to the one at the store and it looks similar but works differently: The part that holds the curler to the handle is not as tight and catches skin around the eye when being used. When it curls eyelashed are bent straight up instead of curled. Overall, it's the same as most drugstore one (that cost $18 less), but if you're looking to buy an actual Shu Umera, this isnt it.

The curl is even across your lashes, smooth, without ridges, and has a much different curl that you get with other commercial curlers. I heat mine up just slightly (it's metal, so be careful!), put on L'Oreal's Lash Boosting Serum, and your lashes are amazing. Highly, highly, highly recommend this curler.

This is not a shu uemura curler! I have been using the product for years, and can tell a fake when I see it. Very disapointed...should have known by the price. If it is too good to be true, it probably is. what a waste of money...

Buyers beware....I know for a fact that Shu uemura is not manufacturing this product anymore. But I thought there may be a few still around thru amazon.com. False. I measured it with my true Shu uemura eyelash curler and this product is smaller all the way around.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply Best, August 11, 2009
All this nonsense from some about holding a hairdryer against your curler to help curl. Who really does this and who really wants to? With a good curler one shouldn't have to. This curler works great and really curls. Right size with no trying to help your lashes in. Just wish it was the price of the Maybelline I used for years but this seems to work better in my opinion.

This eyelash curler beats the heck out of my Revlon curler. It has a rounded pad so you end up with a nice, long-lasting curl rather than the awkward "crimp" that most curlers give you. Definitely recommend.

This is not a Shu Uemera lash curler. I knew as soon as I took it out of the box. It rattles too much - the Shu doesn't make noise when you move it. So I compared it to my Shu when I got home, and there are several other differences in size, shape & feel. Also there are two included replacement pads. Shu Uemera only comes with one. It definitely doesn't curl like the Shu. This was a real disappointment.
