This review is from: The Silver Leopard (Hardcover)
Helen Reilly is a new discovery for me, and I very much look forward to reading more of her work. She was a prolific mystery writer who worked in the period between 1930 and 1962. She apparently was one of the first writers to really develop the police procedural.

The Silver Leopard is more of a romance-mystery with a switched partners theme. A love affair gone wrong because of miscommunication and misunderstanding is at the heart of the plot and drives the murderous side of the affair. Although many of the elements are really typical (young sweet girl done wrong by her men, inheritance issues, mysterious statues), Reilly's writing has real spark. I enjoyed the book quite a bit.

I'm happy to read that the Interwebs think this is one of her weakest novels. I enjoyed it enough that I'm looking forward to reading more as I find them.
