5.0 out of 5 stars This Trash Can Saved Our Marriage
Not long ago, my husband and I adopted a sweet-natured, very obedient stray dog and named him Jack Havoc. It soon became evident that his one weakness was the kitchen trash can. Try as we might, we couldn't break him of his infatuation with the slim curves, the hard plastic shell and the cornucopia of goodness held within.

We'd lay awake at night afraid...

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This Trash Can!
The only positive that I have to say about this trash can is that it looks nice. However, the functionality of it is less than desirable. I have had this trash can for almost a year, and it is literally falling apart. The hinge comes off at least once a day, and has to be snapped back on before it will function properly again. The most disappointing thing to me about...

(REAL NAME)
Not long ago, my husband and I adopted a sweet-natured, very obedient stray dog and named him Jack Havoc. It soon became evident that his one weakness was the kitchen trash can. Try as we might, we couldn't break him of his infatuation with the slim curves, the hard plastic shell and the cornucopia of goodness held within.

We'd lay awake at night afraid that come morning we'd find a kitchen floor coated with coffee grounds and shredded ice cream cartons. We took turns standing guard each night, but alas as the dawn neared and our eyelids began to droop, inevitably Jack Havoc would rise again and our trash can would fall at his feet in surrender.

The lack of sleep led to bickering and resentment and soon my husband and I found ourselves seeking the help of professional counselors and pastors, but to no avail. Nothing could help the situation. All was lost.

Until we found the SimpleHuman CW1322 Slim Plastic 10-1/2-Gallon Step Can that is! Oh, we had hoped and prayed for such a day. We could barely contain ourselves as we placed our order on Amazon and waited for that 4-worded email: "Your Order Has Shipped." And then came the delivery day. Oh, the delivery day.

Every once in awhile, we turn the corner into the kitchen and still find Jack Havoc whispering sweet nothings to our SimpleHuman CW1322, but with its steel-accented slide-lock and lid shox technology, we no longer have to lose sleep at night worrying about spilled coffee-grounds.

Thank you, SimpleHuman! Thank you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than any stainless steel waste can I've owned, October 11, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Tired of cleaning a stainless waste bin? I was and this was the solution. It has faux steel accents which coordinate with my kitchen, yet, I am not constantly wiping handprints and accidental misses off the waste can. The air pump auto close mechanism like a dream and the locking device works great at keeping my 2 year and my smart lab out of the trash. It's slim profile lends itself to end of counter spaces or even near a kitchen island. 13 gal size is large enough so I am not constantly emptying and the wheels make it easily transported even when full.
I priced many waste bins with a plethora of questionable features and this one delivers practicality, functionality, and great design. Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a great trash can, May 14, 2008

This trash can is great. I live in a very small New York apartment (less than 400 sq ft) and the slender shape and white design fits seamlessly against the wall in my tiny kitchen, yet it's large enough to hold half a week's trash.

The lid is great too -- opens with foot pedal and closes slowly and quietly. Also has wheels in the back for easy transport.

I thought about getting a stainless steel, but this one is much more subtle.

Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great in the nursery as a child-proof diaper pail, May 22, 2009
Forget traditional baby diaper pails - the refills are expensive, they don't hold much, kids can put stuff in them, and they don't block smells well. This heavy-duty pail with child-proof lock can be used with regular tall kitchen bags."

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy This Trash Can!, June 4, 2010
The only positive that I have to say about this trash can is that it looks nice. However, the functionality of it is less than desirable. I have had this trash can for almost a year, and it is literally falling apart. The hinge comes off at least once a day, and has to be snapped back on before it will function properly again. The most disappointing thing to me about this product is the main reason for my initial purchase, the lock. I was excited that this can had a lock, so that my dog couldn't get into the trash. However, the lock doesn't work all the time. When the trash bag gets 3/4 full, and you need to lock it to keep nosy canines out, the lock is not fully engaged and the lid can easily be lifted up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Unsurpassed Customer Service, July 8, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Purchased this item approximately a year ago, and it proved 'up to the task ' that it was designed for until 2 months ago.
At that time, one of the two circular plastic holds for the metal rod that is used to attach the lid ...cracked.
Shortly thereafter, both clamp-on plastic 'snap in place' pieces at either end of the lid...cracked.

Resultantly, the lid no longer functioned properly, and would fall off most of the time that the treadle was depressed by foot.

Expecting no help assistance or sympathy from the manufacturer, I neverhtheless went on-line to describe the problem.

Inside of 24 hours, I had a response from an empathetic, cordial company representative who apologized for the problem,
and told me that another lid was on its way to me..., and that there was no cost for the lid or for the shipping.

This kind of 'stand behind your product' service was something that I thought had been relegated to the distant past.
SIMPLEHUMAN is a shining exception to the lamentable state of affairs that modern consumer goods have taken.

Not only would I have no qualms about purchasing other SIMPLEHUMAN products, I eagerly look forward to the next
opportunity to do so...because I think it is important to support them.

i love this product as it fits easily in my kitchen and looks great. It also holds a large amount of trash. I had previously priced this item at a local store they wanted $125. for the same brand and same model. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product, May 20, 2009

It doesn't look like its worth it's price but it's a good product overall. I did some shopping around and I think this was the best bet for my household. One of the things that makes me happy is the fact that the bag doesn't get stuck in the trashcan. It actually slides out pretty easy if you get a 13 gallon bag. I'm satisfied.

4.0 out of 5 stars locking garbage can, January 19, 2009
Our two beagles had been knocking over our old garbage can and strewing trash all over the house when we were gone. The Simplehuman can we bought has solved that problem. The lock is easy to use and has effectively kept the dogs out. The can fits well in our small kitchen and is on wheels, which is handy. We notice that when the can approaches full, you can no longer lock it. Also, I thought the price was a little high. Overall, I am very satisfied with this product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good But Flawed, November 30, 2008

Arrived cracked but the crack doesn't affect the functioning of the bin. The roller wheels which move it around fall off without much effort.

That said, once you have it immobilized its a great product. The foot pedal feels solid and the lid gently closes instead of slamming shut like on other models. It has enough weight that it won't slide around on the floor when you step on the pedal. Looks nice, standard bags are a tight fit so overfilling doesn't cause the bags to fall into the bin which is nice.

Overall, aside from a couple of minor glitches, I'm happy I got this instead of a $100 chrome can.
