Great way to get the most out of those plastic grocery bags.,
This review is from: simplehuman Cabinet Mount Grocery Bag Can with Bag Holder (Kitchen)
Firstly, this is a great trash can. It looks nice, is built well, and it is a great way to get rid of those nasty grocery bags. The arms that you wrap the bag handles around really hold the bags in place. I have never been able to stuff so much trash into old grocery bags as you can with this device.
Now that being said, the unit is a bit large. You need quite a bit of space under your cabinet for this thing to work. We actually have to open the second door slightly in order to reclose the cabinet door but it is something that we are willing to live with in order to hide our trash can under the counter and recycle those bags. I don't know why, but I thought that this thing was an over the door type install like a different (cheaper) model sold on Amazon. There was nothing in the pictures or literature to make me think this, but for some reason I did. This was a slight problem for me and it could be for other users. In order for the bin to work properly, it must be installed about 2.5 inches from the edge of the door. Since the screw holes are about 2.5 inches further in, that meant that I needed to put screw holes about 5 inches from the inside of my cabinet and about 8 inches from the top of my cabinet door for the top set of holes. There is a lower set of holes about 6 inches below that. For me, and others who have cheaper cabinet doors, that meant the holes were to go through a flimsy piece of 1/16" plywood. Needless to say, the screw would have stuck out of the front of the cabinet by all most 3/4". We went to the hardware store and bought a cheap piece of pine molding, about .5"X 36", cut it in half and screwed these to the cabinet frame where the screws would land (the frame around the cabinet is closer to 3/4" thick). And it works great. The extra trouble was definitely worth the convenience. I would buy it again and recommend it to anyone who has the room under their sink to put it in. I'm also going to plead with Simple Human to make an over the cabinet door install for those of us who may get in trouble with a land lord for drilling into cabinet doors.

Love the SimpleHuman trash system!,

I have a septic system and can't install a garbage disposal, so I keep a screen trap in my sink to catch coffee grounds, fruit peels, and the like. Like another reviewer, I had a white plastic coated wire trash bag holder attached to the door under my sink. It was flimsy and hard to clean, but it was so useful to have a trash bin that I could access with one finger. When it finally fell apart, boy did I miss it.... and had dirty spots trailing across the floor from trying to carry wet gunk from the sink to the trash can 6 feet away. I found a crappy one that was even more flimsy and totally unacceptable--the lid would not stay open when lifted, which made it useless for transferring garbage when your hands are full. I looked EVERYWHERE for a replacement like that wire one, but none of the local kitchen stores seem to carry them anymore. Nor could I find any online... until I found this handy and far superior item from SimpleHuman.
This is just great. I love that it comes with a storage bin for the bags, and that the bin catches any drippings from the bags. Many of those shopping bags have little holes in the seams on the bottom, so I always double bag... but sometimes they still leak. No problem, because the bin that holds bags underneath has a tray-style top to catch any drippings. Very smart thinking! I think that the people who complained about the measurements just looked at height and width of the unit vs. size of their cabinet door. Perhaps they failed to consider the DEPTH of the bin (8+ inches) when they measured their cabinet doors... you have to account for the lid in order to ensure that your cabinet door is wide enough and tall enough to open and close with the bin in place. Be sure to take a piece of cardboard that equals the size of the bin cover-- 13.2x 8.2 inches--and hold it perpendicular to the cabinet door where you expect the lid to be--and make sure that you can open and close the door. Don't just measure your cabinet door, because the actual OPENING that the door covers will be smaller. I don't think that simplehuman can be blamed for not including that advice in the specs, but they might be wise to do so to minimize returns. I was very careful to test before I drilled holes for the screws. I would recommend having a friend help hold it in place as you do so, as it's hard to hold steadily in place with one hand while you mark where the holes go. But I managed to get the holes marked correctly and now I have a very solid, very useful under-sink bin. These days I use cloth bags when I shop so I try not to accumulate those plastic shopping bags, but somehow I always have them around. If I run out, I'll grab a few from the self-checkout or the bag-recycle bin at the store. BTW they also have excellent customer service. I managed to break one of the three brackets that hold the lid to the steel frame. I don't mean to imply that the lid is brittle or weak because it's not. The plastic is solid but flexible. Perhaps I was a bit rough in pulling it off when I became impatient about trying to measure those drill holes by myself. Perhaps it came that way, I don't know. I could have let ti go, as the other two brackets held it in place and it worked fine, but I wrote to simplehuman... and they immediately sent me a replacement lid. I could not be happier, which is why I am bothering to write. I'm glad I bought an extra one as a gift for a friend. Excellent product.

Measurements are deceptive,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: simplehuman Cabinet Mount Grocery Bag Can with Bag Holder (Kitchen)
I have had the same experience as another purchaser. I was careful to measure before ordering, and the unit fits on my cabinet door with an inch to spare on each side, however it won't allow the door to close. This should really be addressed in the product spec. section.
