5.0 out of 5 stars simplehuman may have a new convert
I first learned about simplehuman from a very useful blog called Kevin Kelly's Cool Tools (you can Google it if you want). From there I learned that simplehuman has almost a cult-like following of fans of their products.

After buying this dish rack, I just may become a convert to the Cult of Simplehuman. This is really the best dish rack I've ever owned...

1.0 out of 5 stars After 6 months, already corroding! (UPDATED 09/19/09)
At first, I thought this dishrack was beautiful, and well worth the money. After just 6 months of use, the interior rack is already corroding at the joints. This rack is not for heavy usage, only useful for the occasional coffee cups.
UPDATE: 09/19/09
I contacted customer service, and was promptly sent out a beautiful new dishrack. I don't know how this will...

This is really the best dish rack I've ever owned. Even as I write that, I realize it sounds odd to enthuse about something as simple and banal as a dish rack, but simplehuman does such a good job with the design, it's one of those products that brings a small bit of delight to my daily routine. To my mind it's the perfect marriage of form and function.

I know it sounds weirdly obsessive but I spent a lot of time (okay, hours and hours) looking at dish racks online and in stores.

The first and most important criteria I had was an attractive style to liven up my kitchen. This particular model by simplehuman is literally the best looking dish rack I found. The stainless steel skirt that hides the dish rack wires is the perfect bit of flair. It's not gaudy or ornate and so doesn't draw undue attention to itself. But when you do look at it, it is pleasantly minimal with clean lines.

The next most important criteria for me, was a dish rack that functioned well (for example, the water drained off properly into the sink and did not pool under the rack.) And finally, I wanted a dish rack on the larger side, because I do all my dishes by hand (I don't have a dishwasher).

Frankly, I am extremely impressed with how well thought out the functionality of this dish rack is. None of the wires to hold dishes are too high, so it's both easy to stand up plates, and, if need be, lay down pots and bowls. There are cool pop-out wires for drying glasses on the outer side of the stainless steel skirt. When not in use those wires can pop back in flush with the skirt. That is such a thoughtful touch.

And the base under the rack actually drains the water effectively--no pooling under the rack. In the past I've tried rubber dish mats under a dish rack and so often the mats dip in middle so water pools, instead of draining into the sink. This is not a problem with this rack--water drains properly every time.

This is a large dish rack with plenty of room for pots and pans and dishes. But the stainless steel skirt makes it look more contained so it doesn't look overwhelming sitting on the counter.

I'm a fan of products that do their intended purpose with ease. This dish rack does that AND looks good in the process.

I've been very impressed with simplehuman's products so far and they seem to learn from past mistakes. The Stainless Steel Dish Rack has more height than their Flip-Top Dish Rack, so the Stainless Steel Dish Rack can work on a sink with a lip while the Flip-Top Dish Rack cannot. The design is very modular, so you can make it work with the space you have. Although it's expensive, I'd highly recommend this dish rack.

Certainly better than the usual metal racks. Because it stands on four metal legs (four plastic "socks" are included), water won't collect and sit under the rack. Just make sure that the plastic tray is set into the metal track, it should slide firmly but not too easy.

Overall, it does the job with a little bit of style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally a company that designs with User Experience in mind..., January 9, 2009

I decided to pony up and buy this (even if it did seem a little overpriced) after staring at my 10th different disgusting dish rack. They always get grungy, the rubber gets hard and it just becomes an eyesore in the kitchen. What's the point of remodeling your kitchen if you have a grotesque piece of junk holding your drying dishes on display?

I've had 2 simplehuman trash cans for the past couple years, so I had no reservations picking this rack up for myself. When it arrived and I unpacked it, I realized why I love their products so much: even the packaging is smartly designed. Everything is where you would expect it to be, everything has a clear function, it's obvious that they design with a strong eye towards user experience - something far too few companies do these days.

In terms of the way it works as a dish rack, it's flawless. It is very flexible with the adjustable tines and cutlery holder, the bamboo knife block is a stroke of genius and the movable water drain spout makes it incredibly easy (and clean) to use.

In summary, if you care about having items that work well and you value the appearance of your kitchen, BUY THIS DISH RACK! You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars I love simplehuman products, November 11, 2008
This review is from: simplehuman KT1087 Steel Frame Dishrack (Kitchen)
First off, I would like to share with you how many people notice my dishrack and comment! They love it!

I had tried many dishracks over the years. This rack is superb! First off, it is sexy! It looks trendy and it is also FUNCTIONAL. I love the rack and it comes with a warranty. That is very important to me. Divide the cost of the product by the number of years in the warranty! In this case it works out to less than the cost of the ones you need to replace yearly.

The bamboo section for the knives is wonderful! The cupholders are great. The fact that it is raised above the counter is great.

I did purchase this from B, B, & B and used one of the 20% off coupons and it was worth it to me.

Buy it and you will not be disappointed.

I bought this dishrack because I was remodeling my kitchen and I needed a dishrack to put in the laundry room for the duration of the project. Before I started the project, I did not have a dishrack because they are so awful looking and don't enhance the decor at all. I LOVE THIS DISHRACK. It will have a place of prominence in the new kitchen. Sytlish and finctional and well made this is not that horrid thing that was in my mother's kitchen.

4.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good product - many handy features - one drawback, April 17, 2009

This review is from: simplehuman KT1087 Steel Frame Dishrack (Kitchen)
I got tired of paying $20.00 a pop for bamboo dish racks that eventually fell apart, so I searched for something more sturdy that could still hold plenty of dishes. This product seemed expensive, but when you consider its likely longevity it's worth spending $$ upfront instead of purchasing a series of cheaper disk racks.

I love the knife holder. Knives are typically a problem, but not with this dish rack. Love that you can expand the dish rack to handle extra glasses around the outside, or keep it more compact when there's room for the dishes inside the rack.

Like the sturdy feel, the adjustable spout, the effective draining.

The only drawback is that plates with a curvature in the rim do not lay upright when placed in the curved tines meant to hold them in place. This is contrary to the product photo. Depending on the dishes' rims they can lean quite a bit. This bothers me because the leaning dishes take up extra space and the entire rack also looks less tidy.

If your plates don't have curved rims, then this should be the perfect dish rack for you!

This is the most eye appealing, hard working and functional dish rack ever! I balked at the price but figure it's going to last a long time and it is worth every penny! I love the special rack for sharp knives and the fold away rungs for glasses as well as the pull out drain tray - very well thought out design that answers every dishwasher's needs!

5.0 out of 5 stars How can a dishrack be so satisfying?, October 11, 2009

I agree with many other reviewers- this is a GREAT dishrack! Compact but works- I love the separate section made of wood to put your knives in separately. And the u tabs on the outside to hang cups so they can drip right into the sink, and the spout that pours the runoff into the sink. It's so smart, looks great and has made washing dishes much more enjoyable, if that is possible!
