I've had battery operated soap dispensers in the past with mixed results. Many ate batteries for breakfast, wouldn't work with certain thicker soaps or were inconsistent in the amount of soap dispensed. In addition, most came with no see thru reservoir to easily determine the amount of soap left.

So far this one is the most consistent and probably the most solid design I've come across. It's not only well built but even though it's mainly plastic all the parts fit securely with no hastily finished edges to cut.

About the only downfall is a near zero amount of documentation other than a note pretty much telling you not to use soap with beads or other foreign "eye candy" floating in the mix. Fortunately it's easy to figure out. Pop 4 batteries in the bottom and fill it with soap. A handy sticker on the top tells you what button turns it off for cleaning.

I do like the fact it's not overly sensitive. Your hand must be under the spout in order to activate it unlike one previous model I had where getting within 4 or 5 inches of the unit would cause it to spit needless amounts of soap onto the counter.

Originally I thought it wasn't giving out enough soap but it's just the right amount. Apparently those cheapo pumps you normally get soft soap in are designed to give you too much, probably to guarantee you keep buying more.

About the only other negative is the pricing but I do realize you get what you pay for and the extra cost here is because the unit is well built and equally well designed.

I have been a big fan of simplehuman products for many years. I own several of their products and find them to be of the highest quality. So when simplehuman first came out with the "Sensor" touch free soap dispenser, I just had to have one. Although very stylish in form, it failed horribly in function. The first one I had would not dispense any soap at all. A call to simplehuman's customer service provided me with a very friendly experience, and they shipped out a replacement right away. The replacement did work, but barely dispensed any soap, even on the highest setting. I tried several different liquid soaps but none of these made a difference. To make a long story short, over a period of 5 months I tried 4 of these simplehuman Sensor soap dispensers, and all of them failed rather quickly.

Fast forward a few years and now simplehuman has released a new updated model of the Sensor automatic dispenser (called the Sensor Pump), and I was offered one to try at no charge (through the Amazon Vine Program). I figured that simplehuman had made some much needed changes so I was very excited when my package arrived. I received the Brushed Nickel model, and I have to tell you that this device is a work of art. It has a solid feel to it, and the physical design is simply amazing. The Sensor Pump also came with a sample of the simplehuman moisturizing liquid hand soap (lavender scent), which only filled the reservoir about half way. I installed 4, fresh AA batteries (which are NOT included), and began to test my new kitchen soap dispenser.

The first thing I noticed is that this model actually worked! Placing my hand under the spout triggered the device to dispense just the right amount of soap into the palm of my hand.

I had two of the original white models (with a dial volume adjuster on the bottom of the unit) that were purchased directly from [...]

After 2 years and 2 weeks of residential use, one of the dispensers was becoming frequently clogged and was less than optimal. I spoke with their customer service, and they immediately sent a postage-paid return label, and they allowed me to send both units back to them. Simple Human promptly replaced both units with this newer model which they admitted has a new and improved pump mechanism. The new dispensers even came with a complimentary moisturizing soap pouch. I have extremely dry hands, especially in winter, and I love this moisturizing soap.

Today I purchased three moisturizing soap refill pouches for me and four soap dispensers for family members as Christmas gifts.

If this is not excellent customer service, I do not know what is. I also love the Simple Human wall mount stainless steel paper towel holder. And NO! I do not work for Simple Human, nor do I have any ownership interest in their company.

Being a user of bar soap in the bathroom I decided to give this a shot. Bar soap can become so slippery when using it on just your hands, falling into the sink, on the floor, etc.

Here are a few of it's claims:

Claim #1 - No-Drip Valve
There's no lying on this one. This pump has yet to have a drop of soap stray from my intended target. It never leaves any excess on the pump itself or on the counter top.

Claim #2 - High-Efficiency Pump
It's fast! This is nothing like the automatic soap dispensers you come upon in a public restroom where you have to wave your hand 5 or 6 times to get it to sense you. You put your hand there once and within a fraction of a second there is soap on your hand.

Claim #3 - No Messy Drips!
The soap comes out in a steady stream, no dripping.

Claim #4 - Energy Efficient
The product is supposed to last a year on four AA batteries. We'll see.

Claim #5 - No Messy Spills
The opening at the top is wide, and I didn't have a hard time maneuvering the soap into position.

Cleaning this thing is another matter. If you like your shiny things to stay shiny, this is going to take some practice. There's no easy shut off valve besides taking out the batteries, and because the battery compartment is water tight it's rather hard to loosen up. You could potentially end up with some soap on the floor because of this (your hand or arm may get in the way of the sensor). If you wish to wipe down the front of the dispenser, you run the risk of it sensing your hand or wash rag as well. Be ready to get squirted!

The pump also distributes as much or as little liquid as you desire. You are also allowed to adjust this distribution to suit your tastes.
