Happy with my choice,

So far I am happy with my choice: sleek modern design, clean lines, easy to clean (just run plastic parts through a dishwasher) and, surprisingly, the actual rack is narrower, than described. It's only 13 inch wide, 19 inch long and 8 1/2 high. Also the rack is sturdy, holds my pots and pans nicely and thanks to the semi transparent plastic does not look too bulky.

Drain impossible to clean,
This review is from: simplehuman Slim Dishrack, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
Overall we loved this dishrack at first... very sleek, and didn't find the problems mentioned in other reviews (size of rack vs. plastic sheet that catches the water and directs it to your sink). But after about 10 months we ran into what we consider the BIG problem with this rack: the drainage "gutter" underneath, which directs it to the stainless steel lip that directs the flow of water into the sink is IMPOSSIBLE to clean adequately. YOu can removed the stainless steel piece to clean it, but the gutter-type think itself is hidden under the plastic grooves. Gunk and mold have built up, forcing us to buy a new one after less than a year!! I even tried using an old toothbrush to carefully clean it out, but after a while the build up is disgusting. Very disappointing and an incredibly stupid design choice. When considering a new one, we like some of the newer designs by simplehuman, but they all seem to have a similar drainage system, which will lead me to buy something else.

simply too many flaws,

I was very disappointed at this product, simply there are too many design flaws. First, the drain dish is smaller than the frame, so water drips all around it, staining the counter top (especially granite) with calcium buildup. Secondly, the drain dish is made of hard plastic with the deeper rest on one side. The shallow rest doesn't hold the dishes well, sliding down too much. Thirdly, the stainless frame has too big of a gap on the sides, so smaller dishes fall from the rack easily, possibly breaking your dishes. Fourth, but not the least, is the silverware rack. It has holes on the sides, and silverware tend to get caught in them, making it hard to get out, especially if you have curvy-stem silverware. And, the silverware rack is deep and its mouth is small, so even female hands have hard time getting smaller items out. The only good thing which was my reason to get this product, is the bamboo knife block. it is very good to have it for your safety. The bamboo surface starts to chip in the matter of a month, however. What a shame....

This fits perfectly on the little counter space I have for a dish rack. I replaced my bamboo dish rack with this one, and I do prefer the design of the bamboo, but it got moldy after a few months. I love the knife block feature. Overall a good dishrack and I like the size.

When I first saw this Slim Dishrack I was impressed with its appearance and quality of construction. After using it a month it reminded of well designed the traditional rubbermaid rack is. This rack is really a poor design idea. The slots in the plastic bottom can only properly support large plates with flat edges. Anything else is a struggle. For comparison, the slots in the plastic bottom of the Dry Gent are an excellent example of how well these slots can be designed. There's not much that the slots in the Dry Gent can't support. Back to the Slim Dishrack, on the plastic surface on either side of the slots items seem to slide all around. Ventilation isn't all that great either. Just not a good design idea.

The perfect solution!,

This dish rack is perfect for me. We just got granite countertops, and the old white Rubbermaid rack and tray now looked out of place. My typical dish rack use is for drying glasses, coffee mugs, and utensils that I don't put in the dishwasher. Also pots and pans. The flat bottom of this rack gives me lots of space to stack these items. And the knife block works very well, even for my chef's knife (there is an assortment of slot sizes in the bamboo block). Other nice touches are the stainless steel drainage chute and the rubber-coated legs. No sliding on the slippery granite!Disclaimer: Did not purchase from Amazon, found better deal (sale coupon) locally. Otherwise, Amazon is my first choice!

Not having a dishwasher makes me a bit unhappy however FINALLY having a NICE LOOKING dish rack I'm a bit happier to be in the kitchen. Smart design with the spout that actually drains into the sink. Compact yet not too small. I was happy to throw my old rack and yellowing drainer away!

After searching for a dish drainer that looked good and wouldn't rust I recently purchased the Simple Human. This is a well thought out design. It looks good, drains well, solid construction, and has a 5 yr. warranty. I love the removable knife block. It cost a little more than others I tried but those ended up in the trash within a year. I'm convinced that this one will last and highly recommend it!

The design is wonderful. The water really does flow through a channel directly into the sink, eliminating the standing water that gets moldy and discolored in the bottom of the rubber drainers. It's bigger than I expected which is great since I don't have a dishwasher.
One picky thing - because the bottom of the drainer is solid, which is what directs the water into the channel, there isn't the airflow that's present in the wire ones and the dishes need a little swipe with a dish towel where they touch the bottom. However, I wouldn't go back to the wire type for anything - I love this drainer because of the way it drains directly into the sink, even a sink with a lip. It's also great looking and very sturdy.

We had high hopes for this one. It has a nice heavy wire frame, stainless and clean looks. But as soon as it was out of the box my wife started finding problems. First, it only has two cup/glass hooks. That is simply not human and impractical, but we tried to go along with it. Then we found that only the flatest of plates would sit in the plate grooves. Most of our dishes would not fit in them at all. The plastic drip tray is not designed with cleaning in mind. The deep plate grooves look like they will accumulate moisture and grunge over time.
Sadly, we are sending this one back. We really wanted this to work, but the design has some flaws. What we really would like is a simple, design like the Rubbermaid units, but stouter and out of stainless steel. So far no luck it seems. |
