I love the benefit of having the trash under the counter and out of the way, but I have noticed that the frame should be more durable. Mine has already jumped out of the track and had to be adjusted. Now we are just really careful not to put any pressure on the can when we pack down the trash.

If I had any complaint, it would be that it does not come out quite far enough. If you have a cabinet with a drawer above it (as most kitched cabinets do), when you pull it out to take out the barrel (ie to change the bag) it does not lift out without some strange angles to clear the drawer face above. This sometimes results in some garbage on the floor if the barrel is too full. another half and inch of range and it would be fine. overall a pleasure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple to Install: A Simplehuman Under-Counter Pull Out 8 Gallon Trash Can Review, September 14, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: simplehuman Under-Counter Pull Out Can, 30 Liters / 8 Gallons (Kitchen)
With a recycle bin sitting next to the cabinet, I wanted something to use under the sink instead. I carefully measured to be sure the Simplehuman under-counter pull out trash can would fit around the plumbing in the sink cabinet. Convinced the plumbing wouldn't be a problem, I placed the order.

The Simplehuman under-counter pull out trash can requires a 20 inch height clearance. This is where I made my mistake, as my cabinet access height is only 19 inches tall. I could have cut an inch off the trash can, but chose to place the system in our bar instead. In addition to the height requirement, a minimum of 10 inches wide and 21 inches deep are also needed.

Installing the stainless steel track in the cabinet was simple. First I removed the trash can and can brace from the mounting bracket. I positioned the mounting bracket a couple inches back from the edge of the cabinet and secured it into place with four screws, two each in the front and back. Then I reattached the trash can and brace. Install only took about 15 minutes using a cordless drill with a Phillips screw driver tip.

The trash can fully extends on the stainless steel track for easy trash bag removal or lifting out the can for cleaning. The 8 gallon polypropylene trash can is sturdy and firmly secured in place. Plus if anything should go wrong, it's backed with a 5 year warranty.

The Simplehuman under-counter pull out trash performs well, and stands up to typical daily use. I failed to measure the height of the sink cabinet opening, but I expected this trash can to fit a standard kitchen sink cabinet. I'll look elsewhere for a trash can which fits my original purpose. If your cabinet measurements meet the requirements, the Simplehuman under-counter pull out trash can is worthy of consideration.

PROS:
Simple to install
Stainless steel track
Sturdy trash can
Fully extends for easy emptying
5 year warranty

CONS:
Doesn't always fit normal sink cabinets

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product, March 1, 2006
This review is from: simplehuman Under-Counter Pull Out Can, 30 Liters / 8 Gallons (Kitchen)
The product quality is really good for the price. The manual says it fits on a standard size cabinet, I guess it is right except that my sink is 12" deep, too deep that this waste can almost can't get in but my husband is very handy to solve the problem by cutting 1/2" of the height. It looks great and slides easily, one thing they need improve is to put cover on it, otherwise, I still recommend this product.

Great can! looks good and very convenient! Make sure you measure your cabinet before purchasing. Most cabinet maybe too small to fit this can. You may have to remove a shelve inside of your cabinet or if your sink is a corner sink you can angle the can to fit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Well built & worth the money, January 1, 2011

This review is from: simplehuman Under-Counter Pull Out Can, 30 Liters / 8 Gallons (Kitchen)
I seldom write reviews but this product warrants the effort.

After we did some minor kitchen renovations I found that I now had the room in my tiny kitchen to tuck the trash can into a cabinet and began to research what was out there for in-cabinet trash cans - both locally and online. Ultimately, after reading the reviews here and comparing that information to similar products that I saw in local stores, I decided to go with this SimpleHuman model. Since I already owned a SimpleHuman freestanding trash can (the half circle shaped floor model) I can already attest to how well made Simple Human products are; and I also already had confidence in ordering from Amazon after years of doing so. Additionally, all my current can has ever needed is a quick wipe with a damp sponge. My grandchildren love the pedal in front of it so it has taken a beating and the lift mechanism just keeps on going.

I had concerns about other reviewers experiences with the slide out not coming far enough out to clear the drawer above it so I carefully measured. This was of particular concern to me as we have newly painted cabinets with replacement drawer fronts that I didn't want to nick, also, I elected to have brushed nickel bar shaped drawer pulls that extend out a full 1-1/2 inches more which added to the nail biting decision :). My cabinet is a standard one with an opening of approx 14 inches wide and 21 inches in height and 23" inches deep so I knew it would fit properly.

I crossed my fingers, placed the order, and waited for UPS. When I pulled it from the box, I was happy to note the sturdy frame and knew I had made the right choice. The installation was pretty painless, too. The directions are written plainly and clearly which is a joy - just grab your tape measure, drill to make pilot holes, and screwdriver, and decide where you want the unit placed in your cabinet. I elected to have it sit a little to the right (not centered) which gave me room for a small organizer on the left wall and still plenty of room to freely operate the slideout. I keep fresh trash bags under the under bag in the can so they are readily available. The directions tell you that due to the unit's curved handle, you need to place it a minimum of 2 inches behind the front lip of the cabinet which I did - although, you can install it much further back if that works for you. My unit clears the drawer and bar pull very neatly. No need to pull the entire can out to pull the trash bag out. The supply of 13 gallon trash bags that we bought at Costco fit the can perfectly (bag does NOT slip down at all) (of course, it's SimpleHuman) so we haven't wasted what we already purchased.

I've never been happier and I'm somewhat amused that a trash can has been such a major difference in our lives. Now if we can only stop walking past the cabinet where the new can is, to the spot where the old can used to be with a handful of trash we'd be in great shape, lol. This was money very well spent and our old freestanding can (after a good scrubbing) is now gracing our daughter's home. The little ones are thrilled ...

5.0 out of 5 stars Best pull-out, hideaway can you can buy--especially for the great price!, June 26, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: simplehuman Under-Counter Pull Out Can, 30 Liters / 8 Gallons (Kitchen)
I purchased many Simplehuman products for my home over the past few months. I never liked seeing my trash can out, especially in my beautiful kitchen. I searched and searched for the right hideaway can and came across this model.

At first, I was a bit discouraged by the specifications, as it seemed quite small. I ordered it anyway, figuring for the price if I wasnt happy I could put it install it in a spare bathroom.

I ordered from CHEFS and got it in 2 days (to PA). When I took it out of the box, I was surprised to see it was a standard size can. The frame and slider are extremely sturdy and durable. Cosmetically, the unit is a 10! I am a stickler for things looking perfect and orderly, and this one exceeded my expectations. It's high polished stainless and looks incredible! I looked at more than 10 in Lowes, Home Depot, BedBath.., ect, and none compared or even came close.

I have to add, the other reviewer stating this unit is poorly manufactured is stating a complete crock of s***! This is EXTREMELY well made! I plan on posting a personal photo on the site shortly.

If youre considering the purchase, stop considering and just buy! You won't be disappointed!

4.0 out of 5 stars works well, September 29, 2007
This review is from: simplehuman Under-Counter Pull Out Can, 30 Liters / 8 Gallons (Kitchen)
This under-counter trash can is easy to put into place and fits into a narrow space without trouble. The only drawback is it's a little stiff on it's runner which I realize now I could ease by lubricating. Otherwise I'm not aware of it which means it functions well in the background of my life, serving its purpose. I also think the price is right especially if it lasts a long time. Time will tell.

1. Measure candidate cabinet size (at least 21" deep, 20" tall and 10" wide) to make sure it fits.
2. Order.
3. Upon arrival, unpack and separate base unit from sliding portion (which holds the can).
4. Place base on floor of empty candidate cabinet, making sure it is two inches back from the cabinet door, then mark holes.
5. Drill pilot holes.
6. Screw down.
7. Insert sliding portion of unit into the rails and you're done.

Unit works very well and slides like a quality unit should.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Undercounter Unit EVER@@, March 22, 2011
This review is from: simplehuman Under-Counter Pull Out Can, 30 Liters / 8 Gallons (Kitchen)
I've had this unit for nearly 6 years and it still looks and works like new. Without a lid I was concerned about odors in an enclosed space, but I spray the trash can with Lysol with every bag change, and if any seepage accumulates on the bottom I wipe the can clean. I've never had any odors, and I prefer NOT having a lid, for easy access while I'm cooking/cutting/chopping. This is an extremely well built design compared to any other I've seen, and I'm buying another for my daughter's kitchen remodel......she's always liked mine!
