5.0 out of 5 stars A Sinister Twilight: The Fall of Singapore, 1942, August 9, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This eye-opening account of the fall of Singapore in 1942, by Noel Barber, was recommended by a fellow Kossack after I posted a diary on dailykos.com entitled "Bygone Days in A British Crown Colony."

I ordered the book from Amazon's used books department and it was delivered very quickly. Reading it brought back so many memories! The weird thing is, my family missed all that by just 10 years--we arrived in Singapore in 1952, long after the Japanese were gone.

This book was well-written and suspenseful; reading it was like reading a novel. Noel Barber apparently was a journalist to begin with. I enjoyed the wealth of detail and the political analysis. All in all, a thoroughly good read. I'd recommend it to anyone who has ever lived in Singapore, past or present.
