Parents Magazine
“The author has created a cutting-edge, must-have manual for bringing up polite and safe kids in the digital world”

About the Author

Faye de Muyshondt was an adjunct professor in the Steinhardt School of Communications at New York University with a 13-year business background in public relations and marketing. After seeing her own students’ unpolished manners in and outside the classroom, she developed a course titled “The Brand Called You.” In 2008, she extended the course to New York Public schools as well as organizations such as the YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters, and Girl Scouts of America. Motivated by her younger students’ improvement and desire to learn, de Muyshondt began socialsklz:-) tools to thrive in the modern world, a workshop for all ages that opened to the public in October 2009 in New York City. She lives in Manhattan with her husband, daughter, and polite pooch.

More About the Author

Faye de Muyshondt is founder of socialsklz:-) and a Today Show contributor. In her book, socialsklz:-) for Success: How to Give Children the Skills They Need to Thrive in the Modern World (Running Press, July '13), de Muyshondt guides parents toward instilling vital social and emotional skills at home without being perceived as a nag or a critic.

The book is based on her critically acclaimed workshops in NYC and the tri-state area. She and the program have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, CNN, Time Out NY Kids, on WABC, FOX and WPIX. Her book has been called a "must-read, cutting edge manual for raising polite and safe kids in the modern world".

Her professional background also includes 15 years as a public relations professional, in addition to teaching at the Fordham School of Business and New York University's Steinhardt School of Media, Culture and Communications.

It was well thought out and provides a wealth of information that quite frankly even some adults could use for themselves.

Thoughtfully written and pragmatic book on instilling social skills in our children. It is not merely a book on etiquette, but really lessons on developing social and emotional intelligence, which are now increasingly understood to be more important than academic intelligence in determining one's success.

I bought the book for my granddaughter who is now a freshman in college. I read through it before sending it to her. I thought it was very educational/informative and she responded with a big thank you and she loves it. She is a 4.0 student and is always looking to make improvements. Lots of wonderful tips and messages to encourage social success.

Being a parent probably is one of the hardest jobs out there. We all ask for advice on what to do when raising our kids. Technology and times have changed so much from when I was a kid. Faye has given me such insight and tools to use on my 3 and 7 year old kids! I bought 2 and gave the other to a friend! She loved it as well! Well done Faye De Muyshondt for your knowledge and expertise to give to us Parents!

The book exceeded my expectations. As a teacher, I believe it is well thought out with great ideas to engage children. I even tried them on my 25 and 22 yr. old adult children.

Manners have been sacrificed in preparing kids for success in interacting with people. Thank you Faye for giving us a tool to use.

This book is helpful for everyone in a society plagued by bad behavior. It's presented in a non-scolding style. I passed it on to friends & relatives.
