I have had the opportunity to work w/Dr. Sanchez on this book and I use it as required reading for my Medical Terminology classes. It is a good resource to inspire minority students to enter the field of medicine. Dr. Sanchez candidly speaks of the surmounting obstacles that he faced getting an education but, through his determination and perseverance, his focus on becoming a physicin prevailed. His love and respect for his adoptive country give the reader a sense of patriotism while not compromising his love for his motherland. The vocabulary is advanced for EL students, however, the story and its message are well worth the difficult reading.
