5.0 out of 5 stars A complete surprise
Talk about a wowing experience. I couldn't believe how wonderfully these fabulous motown artists both made these songs their own and kept the spirit of the original work.

Some favorites were Let it Be with the wonderfully talented Aretha, Yesterday by Marvin Gaye who just wow's the whole room, and Lady Madonna by Fats Domino. There only seems to be one dud in the whole package and that's Lucy in The Sky With Diamonds by Natalie Cole... blech.

If you like the beatles at all... and genre of the beatles both early and late...

BUY THIS CD! You won't regret it, I promise you.

4.0 out of 5 stars Really good, August 17, 2003
This review is from: soul tribute to the beatles / various (Audio CD)
it takes a strong Cast of Artists to Capture the Genius of the Beatles Songs but right here you get just that.Marvin Gaye turns out "Yesterday"&Earth,Wind&Fire nearly re-write "Got to get you into My Life".in fact Maurice White Won a Arrangement Award for the way he&the Elements flipped "Got to Get you into My Life".this is a Really Good Collection of Artists paying a Tribute to the Songwriting Talents of the Beatles.

Not every cut on this CD is great but some (most?) of them are absolutely phenomenal! It's very rare that a Beatles cover measures up to the original performance. This CD proves the exception to the rule. Tina Turner's edgy impassioned performance of "Come Together" raises the hairs on the back of my neck! Al Green totally transforms "I Want To Hold Your Hand", giving it an easy care free swing that is impossible to resist. Wilson Picket nails "Hey Jude" to the wall, starting out easy and pulling out all the stops for the grand finale; wailing and howling like a man possessed. Otis Redding kicks "Day Tripper" into overdrive. Earth Wind and Fire add some contrast to the mix with their cover of "Got To Get You Into My Life", moving the vibe from soul to funk with tight blistering hooks and a groove that just won't quit.

Tracks sorely missed on this CD include Aretha Franklin's awesome rendition of "Elinor Rigby" and Stevie Wonder's unforgettable version of "We Can Work it Out". But Aretha does give us an uplifting gospel rendition of "Let It Be" and Marvin Gaye delivers a sweet and soulful "Yesterday". Also included on this CD is Eshter Phillips' version of "And I Love Him"; one of John Lennon's all time favorite Beatles covers.

All for $5.99????? Yeah. It doesn't get much better than this. 5 stars y'all. Definitely 5 stars!!!!!

It's The Beatles meets Motown!! Not all the tracks are great but for the ones that are it's worth every penny! Must have for Beatles fans.
