I saw the band live in Atlanta last night (10/5/12), and they sounded great!
The new material is all instrumental, like YANQUI U.X.O (2002) -- no use of the distinctive vocal samples of the earlier recordings. No surprises, but if you liked the 2002 album, you'll like the new album.
It's not exactly a secret that the band has left-wing politics, but it's very oblique, given that they're an instrumental band. It's expressed in the titles, in the apocalyptic mood, and sometimes in interviews with band members.
Personally I think their music would be stronger if they could find a way to articulate their ethical/political view more clearly.
