Brazed tip carbide tools offer the hardness of carbide at less than the cost of a set of HSS tools. Small carbide tips are brazed to the ends of ¼ tool shanks. Though not replaceable when they chip or get dull, these tools are so inexpensive that it offsets some of the advantage of inserted tip carbide toolsparticularly if you have only an occasional job for them. If you like working with these tools, you might want to graduate to 3/8 shank inserted tip tools, but many machinists find these inexpensive ¼ shank carbide tipped tools work just fine for their purposes.
