Good value, but some drawbacks
on July 3, 2011
If you're looking for a no-frills coffee grinder that get the job done at a very affordable price, then this unit will probably work for you. After using this coffee grinder for about 5+ years now, I've noticed some pros/cons of this device.
- Affordable price
- Good quality; it's still working for me going on 5+ years now (although admittedly I use it off and on/not consistently)
- Small footprint
- Aesthetically pleasing
There are a couple of Cons about the product that you should be aware of. For me, the Cons have now outweighed my pros, so I'm looking for an upgrade.
Cons (in order of importance for me):
- A "messy" unit. Since the grinds are in the main portion of the grinder, no matter how careful you are, you'll inevitably have grinds all over your countertop after each use... starting from removing the clear plastic lid, then pouring your grinds into a container, and then cleaning the unit. If you're like me, you may eventually get annoyed by the extra steps needed to clean up after each use, even if you don't clean the unit after each use. Coffee grinders with a dedicated grind bin solves the messy problem.
- No settings to automatically judge your grind size. Grind size/fineness depends on how long you depress the button; the longer you grind, the finer the grinds. You'll have to judge for yourself
- Loud. The grinder is quite loud when you first start up the grinder.
