I've had this meat thermometer for a couple years now, and I must say that it works great. Everything we've cooked with it has come out perfectly. It comes programmed with various meats and suggested temperatures they should be for your desired doneness. It also allows you to give your own temperature for any recipe that calls for something specific.

I did manage to destroy the probe on this once by using it on the grill. Now that I read the title a little closer, it does say "Voice Alert Anticipation ROAST Alert Thermometer", indicating that it is not really intended for the grill. I tried another voice alert thermometer by another brand name, and it didn't work nearly as well as this one did.

Definately give this a shot. I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I really like the functionality of the thermometer. Easy to program. Much better than some of the other thermometers that I have had, BUT the "cord / wire " breaks too easily. I have now bought two of these thermometers, I am extremely careful with the probe and especially careful not to put any pressure or bending at the wired end of the probe but both have fractured at this site.

I have other thermometers that I do not like as well functionally and they have a wired mess over the cord or a protective cover at the site where the probe ends and the wire begins. These have lasted forever. AND you cannot use a probe from a different thermometer. They are not interchangeable.

I would give this a 10 star if they coukld fix their probe/wire connection problem.

Super device. I can't believe I waited so long to get a remote read thermometer. What a fantastic device - takes all the guesswork out of doing a roast. And with the anticipation alert that tells you when to expect the cooking to be done, I even have help timing my meal.

The thermometer itself works flawlessly. Stick the probe into the meat, snake the wire out through the door and set the electronics on some handy counter. Its long enough to reach lots of places. I haven't actually tested it for accuracy - but I know the results have always been a perfect roast, so I'm guessing they are. The probe and cord are easily cleaned when done.

The voice is loud and clear. No problem there, either. And the display is easy to read and easy to use.

So what does that leave? The "anticipator" function is the unique feature, and the one I was most skeptical of. If it didn't work I wouldn't be too surprised. But it does work. It measures the rate at which the temperature rises, and uses that rate of change to estimate when it will reach the set temperature. Wow... in practice, that means I can just relax until it alerts me, then pop everything else into the microwave for last minute cooking or reheating that will be done exactly when I need it.

Definitely worth every penny... and it didn't take too many at that.

I really do like this item and it is great for cooking a whole chicken - the alarms and time left are not very accurate - but the temp is that is what really matters.

I've used this for about a year, both in the oven and BBQ. The alert voice is fun and reasonably loud. I can't hear it outside if I'm inside, but indoors it can be easily heard. There's a nice option to change from "alert voice" to "alert beep" if you get tired of "10 MINUTES UNTIL READY".

There are a couple of problems with it:
First, if you use it in a BBQ, the probe is easily damaged if it is exposed to direct flames. Be careful to place the cord from the probe over a part of the grill that will not flare up. Replacement probes are available from Maverick (you can get 2 for $20 with shipping).

Next, the probe design allows ambient heat to affect the temperature reading. If too much of the probe is exposed outside of the food, the surrounding air will raise the reported temperature by 10-20 degrees. Insert the probe as deep as possible.

Back when I bought this, the probe had a faulty design. The point where the probe attaches to the cord was weak. Maverick has since changed the design to a more robust attachment. So far, none of my probes have broken at that point, although I have toasted 3 of them due to direct flame.

Overall, I like it and use it several times a week.

My husband loves this thermometer. He was skeptical when I gave it to him, but it's kind of like asking for directions for a male...might not like admitting they need it but sure glad they did!:-) He can set the desired temp and be working on a project and hears the thermometer tell count down the time and temp. I have bought 4 more for Christmas presents for all of the men in my family.
The only con is that the connection on the wire that leads to the probe could be improved. Still working fine after one year, but he has to tighten the connector before using it.

Loved the voice function, accuracy, and ease of use. What I didn't like was I couldn't set a specific temperature. I would recommend this to anyone busy who needs a "time check" in the kitchen before other sides need to be done.

works good but the alarm is preset to "RARE". "Med Rare" temps which are not mine so the timer is useless to me, which was one of the selling points.

This talking digital thermometer is so much fun to use. If you are not interested in hearing "It's time to baste", or "your food will be ready in..." or several other audio responses throughout the cooking time, you can turn off the voice mode. The unit itself shows you the internal temperature of the meat you are cooking, and anticipates how long it will take to cook. For issues of safety cooking pork and poultry, it always selects well done for you. For beef, you decide how you want to cook it depending on your tastes. My daughter-in-law was the first to use it in her oven, my son uses it when he is grilling and my newest DIL received one as a gift this Christmas from me.

The probe goes into the meat, and the cord from the probe to the unit stays partly in the oven after the oven door is closed. I thought it would melt, but it was just fine. However, my son does not close the grill cover on it. He just uses it to poke the meat and check the temperature. The only thing I would recommend is that when your food is "done", move the probe to another spot to recheck the temperature. In the beginning, you have to learn where to place the probe to get the best temp reading. Also I do not like the "stand" it has, so I just place it flat on the countertop next to the stove.

I have used this timer for 4 months and I still love it. It works as advertised. I find the voice feature to be helpful counting down from 30 minutes.
