I recently used the PowerMonkey and it worked great! I charged it before I left, used the charge and used the Solar panel to recharge it. Everything worked great. I highly recommend this product for those in the field.

I bought this for my husband as he takes long bike/camping trips on the north shore of Minnesota. We powered this up and charged his cell phone as a trial. His cell phone was completely out of juice. After the PowerMonkey eXplorer finished charging the cell phone, the bars on the PowerMonkey display hadn't changed and was still at full power. This will be invaluable on his bike trips. He also has a Nook and an iPod and this item will charge those, too! Amazing little thing and powerful! It will keep all his gadgets charged up and I won't have to worry about him being stuck somewhere without an uncharged phone! This would also be great on long overseas flights. We will try out the solar part of it next! Don't ever go anywhere without this cool little thing. Worth every penny!!

The power monkey itself is fine, worthy of four stars. It could be improved by pass-through capability (i.e., charge a device directly from the solar panel, rather than solar-charging the battery, then charging the device from the battery) but otherwise it's great. It's powered my phones and iPod through lots of travel.

Unfortunately, the adapters are a little flimsy. The iPod adapter fell apart after about a year of constant use. I could repair it with a little glue and solder, so no big deal so far.

When I finally joined the herd and bought an iPhone, I needed a new adapter (partial blame to Apple here for failing to maintain compatibility between iPod and iPhone adapters. How hard would it have been, guys?). So I ordered two (one for spare, knowing the adapter durability problems), waited the requisite few weeks for the shipment to the US, and then opened it to find they'd shipped the wrong adapters. The shipping label says iPhone adapters, the actual parts are iPod adapters. OK, mistakes happen, so no big deal. The return/exchange policy says I need to email them for exchange paperwork. Email sent, no reply.

It worked fine for a month or so, but when I went camping and really needed it, the solar charger wouldn't fill up the battery pack. I left it in the sun for 2 hours, and the pack wouldn't even turn on to charge my phone.

Then when I recharged it using the wallcharger back home, the fully-loaded battery pack wouldn't even charge up my ipod touch fully with a full charge.

It's possible the version I got had a faulty battery or something, but since I tested it for a month before going out and it bailed on me at a critical juncture, I'm really soured on the PowerMonkey.

Replaced this with a Brunton Inspire and USB Solar panel when it failed to take a charge after only three months of use. The seller will do nothing for you after 14 days, and the manufacturer is in the UK and a few reviewers here report that they do not respond. I doubt I will buy another monkey battery to use with all the junk it came with because so far the Brunton products are working very well. Of course the Inspire is a closeout and any lithium battery has a typical lifespan even on the shelf but so far so good.

I got this in yellow, even though I am a backpack hunter - too easy to lose things when tired or dark, so got it in yellow.
Strapping to the top of my pack was a bit problematic - ended up buying the little USB 90 cm extension cord so I could put the little pod inside my pack. The cord from the solar is only about 15 cm long - too short to assure the pob won't get lost or disconnected while hiking.

Thinking it might be a good idea to have two pods and just leave the the solar unit charging a pod at my central camp. Really like all the possible charging attachments but I personnally only have micro connections.

All I can think of is because this product is manufactured by a UK company none of the adapters fit phones, cameras, etc. E-mailed the company and they never responded. I have done Google searches to no avail. Bottom line: It is a good idea, but if none of the adapters fit all you can use it for is a paperweight.

I've had this for three weeks. So far, the solar panel is recharging the small pocket-sized battery stick. The battery recharges my Samsung Galaxy S3. However, the battery does not recharge my notebook or 17" Dell Inspiron laptop.

When I tried to charge my powermonkey with the solar panel it did not work. I set it out in the sun for over six hours and not one bar of power. Instead of returning the product, I got in touch with the company that makes powermonkey. They were very resopnsive to my email complaint and are sending me a new solar panel. I am leaving on a month long hike of the Appalachian Trail next week and I will post again how well the powermonkey solar charger worked for us when we get back. That being said about the solar panel, the wall charger worked great to charge the powermonkey and I was able to fully charge several devices and I still had power left over. Hopefully after our trip I can change my rating from 3 to 5 stars.

It's been running smoothly and living up to expectations for 1 year+ now. I recently ran into my first bit of trouble with it: one of the tips stopped working without any physical damage visible. It took a few days for customer service to respond to my email, but when they got back to me, I had an absolutely superb experience!! The issue is totally resolved; I plan to get back to enjoying my powermonkey both while traveling and at home!
