This vest is pretty basic. If the price weren't so incredibly reasonable compared to all the competing products, I may not have rated it as high as I did. But, for the price, I think it fully deserves four stars.
I have so far only used this vest once, while working outdoors at an evening football game. I wore a lightweight t-shirt under the vest, and had a sweatshirt and two coats over it. The temp was about 28, but with some pretty heavy wind making it feel colder.
First, the good: This vest produced a very noticeable amount of heat. I know for sure that it helped keep my core warm. It worked and heated for about 2.5 to 3 hours on a full set of rechargeable batteries that were slightly below full charge. The vest fit well.
The bad: One side of the vest didn't heat up. Since I have only used this product once, I don't know if it is a problem with the vest or with the batteries I put in that side. That said, the heating was still very effective even with only one side working.
Could be improved: The battery compartments have a tiny screw that you have to undo to get into them, which makes it obnoxious to put in batteries and makes it hard to switch out to new batteries on the go. A simple battery compartment that snapped open and closed would be so much more convenient and allow for many more hours of heat. As others mentioned, the lining of the vest is a bit cheap feeling, however, I didn't have any problems with it ripping and I don't anticipate any- it is no where near as thin and fragile as a garbage bag, which is a comparison I read in other reviews.
