I bought this mostly because I am an accessories addict. The reviews seemed mixed, but thought that if it worked it would be awesome. I do tons of presentations, and using my iPad2 is muched preferred to lugging my laptop around. It arrived, and I tossed it into my bag unopened. Went to an 8 a.m. Meeting where I was the presenter. I was confident my previously e-mailed presentation would be ready and waiting. It was not. Ran to my car to get laptop only to find a dead battery. Desperate by this time, I think of my new gadget. I pulled out my iPad2 and plug it in. Voila! My iPad2 screen was projected in a split second. A must have for road warriors. I don't know what the other reviewers were doing, but seriously, this was so easy, you would have to work to make it fail!

I don't know what Apple was thinking when they put this out. I have bought, tried, and returned two of them. The iPad connector doesn't lock into place (the way the charging cable does) and slips out at the slightest bump or turn. Hey Apple, please recall these and put out a better batch...

Dock connector to vga adaptor is a must have accessory for your ipad especially if you attend allot of meeting and need to connect your iPad with LCD, LED or Datashow. It fits perfectly and need no configuration to work. Tested with the new iPAD (3)

I use this for trial and find myself having to hold it in the slot while I am speaking. The slightest bump and one of the corners pulls out and then no video. I returned it and got another one with the same problem. When it stays in it is fine.

I actually tested the following claim on my iPad2 and I've verified that it's true.

Put your slides, movies, photos, and everything else that fills your iPad 2 screen on an even bigger screen - a VGA-equipped TV, monitor or external projector for video mirroring. The Apple VGA Adapter mirrors exactly what you see on iPad 2 so that everyone in the room can enjoy it.

More precisely, when a video is playing, the iPad2 screen turns grey with a TV symbol while the video plays on the external monitor or projector. This is the std. behavior of the iPad2 also with the HDMI output.
Great connector to do presentations using the iPad2.
Suggestion: prepare a single large .pdf with the whole presentation in it, then pan/zoom with your fingers over it. You'll have a very effective Prezi-style (prezi.com) presentation at your fingertips. Very satisfactory, extremely cool and fenomenal exercise for your fingers!

It works with my iphone 4 perfectly. I can now watch Netflix with my projector through the iphone. Only downside is it doesn't have a pass through for charging so it's best to have a fully charged battery before connecting this thing.

I must admit that I almost didn't buy this cable when I read all of these negative reviews. Everybody says it only works with certain applications unless you have a jailbroken iPad. I certainly am not going to jailbreak my iPad, but I figured I'd buy the cable anyways since I have QuickOffice and it seemed to be compatible. Imagine my surprise when I plugged it into "the new iPad" (or the iPad 3 as most people call it) to my projector and instantly I saw my desktop cloned on the screen. Everything I did on the iPad appeared on the external display. I was able to run through PowerPoint Slides, PDF's, even play Angry Birds Space. Everything looks just as you'd expect.

My only negative is that the cable seems to have weak retention. I had to be careful not to move my iPad too much while it was attached as the cable came loose easily.

It is possible that this great cloning feature was a recent addition to iOS not present when earlier reviews were written - I haven't owned an iPad long enough to know. All I can say is that it far exceeded my expectations, fully cloning everything I did on my iPad to an external display.

It came in a "no-name" packaging, plain white pocket - I seriosly doubt that's an brand Apple accessory.

Sometimes it doesn't work with my IPad 2 at all, sometimes It works for approx. 30 seconds and after a message stating "This accessory is not compatible" pops out and output to VGA shuts off.

I'm a language teacher and use iPad in my classroom everyday. I bought two of these dock connectors and one of them stopped working after a few days. I contacted the seller who is in China, and their response is quite laughable. This is their reply to my request for refund:

"hello, friend .on item page we write clearly buyer must return item to us at his cost then we send replace to him at our cost ,thanks .
consider return shipping is not cheap .i have an idea .how about i report to our boss refund USD12 to you to end this issue .then you do not need return fault one to us .pls tell me your idea ,thanks
any question pls tell us ,we will try our best to help you ,thanks."

If the product is faulty after only a few days of use, I want my money back in full. They offered free shipping when I purchased it. Why not offer free return shipping just like Amazon does, which is why I go back again and again for online purchase.

Dangling their return policy knowing fully well their product is knockoff and faulty is just dishonest in my opinion.

So if you are considering buying from this seller, just pay extra more dollars and buy a genuine Apple adapter.

Mis-reviewed this earlier... This is an apple product and as a result, it works great. I tried purchasing a couple of really cheap, "offbrand" products and they were horrible. The Apple devices themselves would not recognize them as usable devices so they were useless. The only reason I didn't give this five stars, is because I get a little frustrated with Apple and their need to have everything be proprietary to their devices. I hate to have to pay full price for an Apple made product at times, on the other hand it works as intended.... So don't try to save a buck, you're just going to end up buying an Apple accessory in the long run...
