Although these are not an exact duplicate of the original York patties, they are really tasty, and I like this new texture even more than the other kind. While the ones containing sugar have a more solid filling texture, these ones are a little mushier inside, and it's a nice change. That, and the fact that there's no sugar, but also no artificial sweeteners like Splenda (sucralose) or Nutra Sweet (aspartame) is the only reason I even tried these. I highly recommend!

I love York Peppermint Patties and was surprised at how good the sugar free ones taste. They are not low calorie, but they are great for people who can't have sugar.

I got a package of these at a local CVS. I had seen them there several times before and decided to try them.

Before I went on a low carb diet York Peppermint Patties were one of my favorite candies, so I thought I would give the sugar free version a try.

First off, this version is full of sugar alcohols (maltitol and isomalt). The label says 21 grams in a serving of 3 pieces of the candy (the 3 ounce bag had 7 pieces in it).

The label says that there are 24 grams of carbs in a serving, with 2 grams of fiber and 21 grams of sugar alcohols for a net carb count of 1 gram per serving. I am not completely sold on the idea of not counting sugar alcohols as carbs, but that is a debate for another place, I think.

The taste was OK. The candy was different than the regular York Peppermint Patties I remember from before July of 2009 when I started on low carb. I don't know if they also changed the regular candy or it is just the sugar free version, but the mint center is thinner and chewier than I remember, and the chocolate layer much thicker. The patties I remember had a creamier center to them and the chocolate coating was much thinner.

While this version was OK, it was a bit of a disappointment since I kind of expected something very similar to the sugared version I remembered. The taste was not bad but the texture was different and the eating experience was just off. Kind of hard to explain it exactly.

The sugar alcohols gave me some gas as is common with sugar alcohol ingestion, but nothing real horrible. YMMV as some people are quite sensitive to them.

I compared these with the Russel Stover version of peppermint patties (available at my local chain pharmacy, begins with a "C") and these were much better - better chocolate, and more minty flavored. These are a bit smaller so fewer calories per each. I usually manage to stretch out each one into 3-4 small bites so 2 pieces make a dessert, at least for me. There are only 7 per 3 ounce bag, so for the pack of 12 you're getting 84 small patties. I've hidden them in the closet so that they last a while....

These are Heavenly!! no one would ever guess they are sugar free! As a peppermint patty addict, I sorely missed them on my low carb diet. But no more :)

Try them! You won't regret it.

If you are low carb, it can be difficult to find an edible sugar free candy. If you are low carb and gluten free/grain free, it can be next to impossible. I can not even buy the ones that are manufactured on the same line as candies containing gluten, because of the very real problems of cross contamination. Some people can tolerate that, but people like me who react to the tiniest amounts can become very ill from ingesting those tiny amounts. For that reason I can't buy Russell Stover or Weight Watchers brands to name two. Not to knock them, because they have excellent candy, but I found out the hard way that I simply can't eat them. I tried these because I was getting tired of the same old things all the time. I was not a particular fan of them in my sugar eating days, but I wanted to try something new. Holy cow, these are really good. They are creamy, smooth, chocolatey, and delicious. My husband and I both loved them. My picky oldest child did too, and he normally doesn't like anything sugar free. They are a wonderful find for low carb and/or gluten free people, and a very nice treat. I find one of them very satisfying, and do not find myself overeating them. I think that might be because they have a stronger taste than most candies, so one is all I want or need. My husband and son can both eat more, so these go fairly quickly. I get them every two months on Subscribe and Save. I can't find the sugar free version in any local stores or grocery chains, so I was pleased to find them on Amazon. These are excellent, and I love them.

I gave up sugar (mostly 99% of the time) a bit over a year ago. For a while, I just didn't really have treats. Saw these in the drugstore and got some. Ya know, they do taste like the YPP we know and love. Nice and minty and chocolatey. BUT....

The texture is just not the nice one associated with the original. This lacks that creaminess and...well...the texture magic. These are dryer...er...it's hard to describe, but it's not a lovely textural experience.

Hence the 3 stars.

Also, I wouldn't recommend more than one, two max at a pop. The sweetener they use will make you visit the bathroom and gurgle you up in more than minimal quantities. Well, they do me, anyway.

But, for sugar avoiders, one of these once in a while after a meal is rather nice. :D

Now, if they could just use a less gas-making sweetener like, say, erythritol or sucralose.

These are very good tasting! My husband and I prefer these to other brands. The only problem that I have with them is the quality control of the individually wrapped mints. I bought a box of 12 packages and found that about one mint per package was inedible because the individual mint was smashed inside the wrapping and was hard as a rock or something else has happened to render the mint rock hard. One package had a mint and a half of one (roch hard) in the same wrapping. Great mints but not so great quality packaging.

I love peppermint patties, but need to watch my sugar. I could not find any sugar free peppermint
patties in the store.
