After realizing the muscle milk powder I was buying from GNC was loaded with chemicals and heavy metals like mercury and lead, not to mention all the artificial sugars and flavors, I decided to research a healthier option for a complete protein.

I picked this powder because it has protein from different sources (pea, artichoke, amaranth, and quinoa) and also has an amino acid profile listed on the side which seemed to be more balanced than some of the other options.
The powder itself is very fine but I am okay with that. I might not like it if I had to mix it with water, but I put mine in a blender with ice, coconut milk, organic vanilla extract, coca powder, and stevia. I'm also wanting to try it with banana and peanut butter added in. I purchased the unflavored version because I knew I'd be mixing it with other flavors.

Otherwise, this powder filled me up nicely and actually lowered my cravings for sweet food. The Muscle milk I was using before had a lot of artificial sugar which I think increased my cravings for real sugar. There are also 120 calories a serving with 22g of protein versus muscle milk's 360 calories and 32g of protein. This is less protein but you feel so much better when you take this stuff.

In conclusion this is a great product. I wouldn't recommend taking it with water, but it makes a rather hearty and healthy meal replacement. It has a pretty balanced amino acid profile as well because it mixes more than one plant protein, and it also has enzymes. It balances my blood sugar nicely, and causes no digestion issues.

Amino acid profile for inquiring minds: (in mg)

As an athletic vegetarian who aspires to be all-natural, it's hard to find a way to stay away from nutritionism while still giving my body what it needs to continue performing well. Although I believe protein powders are generally processed and are not as natural as say the protein found in peanuts, mushrooms, or meat; Plantfusion is a happy medium between the processed and the natural. My favorite aspects of this protein powder are the vegan, 100% natural, non-GMO, soy-free ingredients. There is also no xylitol used to sweeten this powder either, another winning factor for me, as I have experienced intense migraines with very similar protein powders that DO use xylitol. This product instead uses stevia, as a sweetener I presume, and though I would prefer it did not contain this either, I have resolved to use it despite that.
The powder mixes very easily with anything: homemade fruit smoothies, yogurt, (rice/almond) milk, or plain water. Give it 10 seconds of shaking in a protein mixer or even 10 rotations of a spoon in water and it has dissolved! The texture is neither thin nor thick and leaves no chunks; leaving me with a drink that has substance but still easy for sipping. The powder should be put inside whatever container you use for preparing/drinking with just a minimal amount of care. As it is lighter than sugar in weight but heavier than confectioner's sugar; it has a tendency to create small clouds of powder if carelessly dumped into a tall glass.
The vanilla flavor is nice, not overly rich; a nice accent to any beverage. I may try the flavorless option available next time as it is less expensive and I don't mind my smoothies without its extra taste.
I have never experienced any problems in digestion when using PlantFusion, which I hear can be a problem for some when using protein powder. I have one drink with a scoop of PlantFusion on days I am cycling or running, within an hour after my activity has ended. I use it to both supplement my diet, and help maintain/create muscle mass.
Overall, this is a great product for anyone seeking an alternative to protein powders that are ingredient-dense, soy-based, whey-based, and/or contain xylitol. Have fun, be active, stay natural!

... so if you watch that you may want to consider a different brand. I switched to Life's Basics, which is very similar to Plant Fusion. Both are gluten free, vegan, and all-natural. Nutritionally they compare favorably in every way except sodium and fiber, with Life's Basics having lower sodium. PlantFusion doesn't list any fiber, Life's Basics is 8% of DV. Both have an amino acid profile; Life's Basics gives a breakdown on how many mg of each type of acid is in their powder, while PlantFusion just lists the sources of the acids. They are similar in price and the flavor and digestibility of both are very good. They are very finely ground powders with only a hint of grittiness while drinking.

Quick nutrition info:

PlantFusion - Nature's Most Complete Plant Protein Vanilla Bean - 1 lb. (454 g)

Total Fat 2 g 3%

Sodium 390 mg 16%
Potassium 60 mg 2%

Sugars (from Fructose) 4 g

So bottom line... PlantFusion is a very good choice, but if sodium is a concern consider a lower-sodium powder.

Everything about this product is good -- EXCEPT the sodium content, which is in the stratosphere....390 mg per serving. Even if you are not worried about sodium intake per se, this this amount could set up food cravings, as happens in fast food, and also set the stage for water retention. Who needs it?

I have seen several reviews regarding this product. First off, it tastes great when mixed correctly. I am not sure how many other protein powders other reviewers have tried, but this is just as good, if not better, than most. If you want a vegan protein option that supports weight training or endurance training, this is your best bet. Other vegan powders such as Vega are extremely expensive. Second, this is a fantastic price. You basically get twice the amount for around the price that you would pay at a local green grocery.

Recommendation: if you want this powder to taste really great: use two parts water, one part chocolate almond milk, and a scoop of this power. Do not use water alone! ALL PROTEIN POWDERS TASTE CRAPPY WITH JUST WATER ALONE. USE ALMOND, SOY, OR COCONUT MILK FOR VEGAN OPTION.

I have always been skeptical of protein powders because of my sensitive stomach. Dairy (whey) tends to upset my stomach. So, I was elated when I found out about PlantFusion protein powder, the natural, plant-based, vegan supplement. It tastes great; I have tried Vanilla Bean, which is delicious with unsweetened almond milk. Sometimes I add PB2 and dark cocoa powder if I'm craving chocolate, and it is perfect for a snack to keep me full and satisfied! It mixes well with smoothies as a protein boost; just add a little honey and cinnamon or frozen mixed berries. I also have tried chocolate raspberry, which is also tasty, but it's a bit too sweet and I could definitely taste the sweetener, which is stevia and fructose. Because of this I prefer Vanilla Bean, which is smoother in taste. The powder is extremely fine so be cautious when pouring it into a glass, because it could create puffs of powder that make a mess.
You are going to want to use a blender bottle (Blender Bottle Shaker Ball Colors with this protein powder as it is a bit thick and requires some encouraging to fully blend. You could also use a small personal blender, like MyBlend (Oster BLSTPB WBL 250 Watt Blender Powder Either one works great; just don't try to use a spoon because you will not be able to mix in those clumps.
If you strive to maintain a healthy diet, try this powder as a great alternative to snacking or a small meal. However, if you have a sweet tooth, you probably won't like this.

This is a great all natural protein powder. The chocolate is also very tasty!! I found that 1 scoop with 8oz of Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk and 4oz of water is the perfect mixture and consistency. I am going to order more right now!

If you're considering buying the unflavored version, you are probably looking for a vegan/organic protein supplement to mix into a shake or as a meal replacement.

While this mixes up smoothly, it has a repulsively sweet taste to it, despite being called "unflavored."

I understand having sweeteners and flavorings in a vanilla version, but the whole point of unflavored is so you can flavor or sweeten it as little or as much as you want.

Looking at the fine print on the label, the sweeteners are:
-Fructose (a sugar, it's naturally occurring in fruits and is present in a wide variety of foods we eat already)
-Glycine (a non-essential amino acid with a sweet taste)
-Stevia

If sweeteners are an issue, there are better options out there, like Nutribiotic's brown rice protein or Garden of Life, both of which are available without sweeteners / flavorings.

There's nothing wrong with having a sweetener in a supplement like this for most people.
However for those of us for whom it is an issue, the branding of "unflavored" is very misleading, just a heads up.

This was recommended by a Dietician as a way to modify my diet. I started using it and now I have it every morning in a fruit shake. By making this simple change in my diet I was able to drop and keep off 15 pounds that I don't need.
