This unit is solidly constructed and the motor operates from 12V DC. I purchased a 12V 6A power supply and it works great. You need to complete the wiring for your installation, as the unit comes with short wires for the motor and the switch, and the distance between them will be determined by your installation. My TV is a 32in LCD/LED model that is not very heavy, so I was able to attach the TV to the mount and then attach the mount to the wall in a bedroom. I placed a tall dresser in front of the TV, and it lowers out of sight behind the dresser when not in use.
The normal use for this mount would be inside a cabinet, where you attach the mount to the cabinet first, and then attach the TV to the mount.
The first unit shipped to me arrived damaged because of the packing materials being loose, which allowed the mount to move and break the gear housing, which the motor is attached to at a right angle. I recommend that you inspect your unit closely to make sure it was packed well.
