Heavy in the handle gives it a very good feel (like you do with a professional cutting knife with a heavy handle) and it cuts through ice cream like butter... SMOOTH! The edges are not sharp so there is no chance of accidentally piercing through the carton. This isn't something that I've come across personally, but I've heard it happens to some. It curves the ice cream into nice ball shapes, though a little too large for the small cones I usually use... but using smaller cones is the best way I can limit how much ice cream I consume at one time, Haha.. But normal cones or filling a bowl would be no problem.. and its not too big of an issue with the small cone..
I owned one of these before, but the surface tended to bubble up. I believe this is caused by putting it through the washing machine, but I decided to buy a second one and hand wash it. I would definitely recommend this scooper over rest! Not that I have tried all the rest, but the looks, feel and performance are so perfect, I can't imagine needing/wanting more.

This doesn't have the easy-release capacity of some scoops when the ice cream is perfectly tempered and semisoft.
BUT -- if your freezers keeps the ice cream solidly frozen, nothing else has the heft and curvature of the Zyliss. This is a well-honed, solid ice cream tool. If you're tired of struggling and futilely chipping away at a slippery rock-hard block of ice cream, this scoop will do the job.

I have one and have given them as gifts. The handle is comfortable, and the "blade" enters ice cream easily. The shape of the scoop releases the ice cream easily. It seems to cut through the ice cream with less effort than several other scoops I have tried. I handwash mine; a quick dish soaping and rinse and it's good as new.
