6 months ago our basic Whirlpool washing machine went out... so we were in the market to buy the same basic type model around $350 to $400. As I started researching the different options I came across the HE agitator-less (the center pole)version... shopped reviews and chose the LG washer. We loved it! It was quiet, used less water, had a super fast spin dry that made clothes almost damp dry... plus we can now wash our comforter easily with the open tub design!
So a week later my wife comes home from work and stated that her coworker suggested that we "get the matching dryer while we still can, before they change it up"... so here we go again... researching the dryer that I did not have to replace! LOL Go figure...
So I bought the dryer at HD, had it delivered and to my surprise I like it even more than the washer! It is quiet, it has a dampness sensor that senses moisture in the dryer and shuts off automatically. I like the glass door on the front which my 17 month old really enjoys too! There is something about having a glass door on the washer and dryer that takes the mystery of what happens inside after you close the door! Actually it just looks nicer than our older ALL WHITE Whirlpool stuff.
The touch panel is also nice... lots of options yet easy to use.
The thing I like the most is the noise reduction we experienced going from our basic Whirlpool set and the new LG set. I am usually a penny pincher and was determined to spend the least amount of money... but in the end I am very happy spending double my budget (I cannot believe those words just came out of my mouth) for products that offer a better cleaning/drying ability and are far less noisy.
If you have any concerns about reliability then get the 5 year extended warranty... actually you should consider it for all brands as every brand has at least a 1%-3% failure rate. That is why we get a warranty on everything we buy. Extended coverage will pay for itself in just one visit.
For the first time, we decided to buy LG washer/dryer and paid a premium for these - in March 2012. Since then we have had 2 breakdowns under warranty (thankfully) and now a third one. Based on my past experience of totally dependable dryers (GE, Whirlpool -- many different brands) I declined extended warranties. This should teach me.
Looks very nice. The upgraded electronic LED control panel allows for more selections of drying than the mechanical knob style. This, combined with the LG washer, saves time and electricity when doing laundry. The reduced level of noise during operation is very noticable, compared to the older set, and is an over-all blessing to my ears.
I have 2 issues with this dryer: (1) The cycle signal is a very quiet, melodic chime that cannot be heard if the washer is also running (what's wrong with a good loud buzzer?) and (2) The top is rounded so that a stack of folded clothes slides off.
Other than these two annoying traits, the dryer works well. However, it appears this was designed more for looks than function.
