This thing is the greatest multi tool ever...
I am a soldier technician, and it has proven to be an invaluable asset to me at work, and at home. It's useful in almost any application, the tools are durable, the blades are sharp and the bit driver tops it all off.

I carry it with me to the bathroom.
I fixed a kid's toy and a tank with it.
Versatile.

If it survived a tour of duty, it'll survive fixing your crappy Honda.
It could probably blow out the candles on your next birthday cake. Then take them apart.

It looks as awesome as it is, and cleans up well - I have the oxide one, but they offer it in regular steel. Leatherman scores again!

CONS: It costs a lot. For the price, they should throw in a bit kit...but it comes with a wrench and case....one set of replaceable hardware wouldn't kill you, fellas!

If you are a firearms enthusiast, law enforcement, soldier or EMT, I would suggest it. Otherwise you may want to choose something more suitable.....

The MUT is a great multitool and has everything you would expect from Leatherman, but it also has very specific items that will come in handy if you are a shooter, especially of AR-15 or M-16s. It has a pin removal punch that is quite handy for Black Rifles, along with a bronze carbon scraping tool that will work on all guns without damaging steel parts that it comes in contact with. The wire cutters are replaceable and the web cutter is pretty nifty as well. It's pretty big and bulky, but will replace several range tools if you are a shooter.

This tool has everything I ever wanted in a multitool; knife, saw, hammer, clip, changeable bites, bottle opener (hell yeah), pliers, wire cutters, cord cuter, and last but not least; a punch for the AR! I've used every tool on this Leatherman MUT numerous times and it comes in use practically every day whether I'm at work (I set up AV and tech at events) or home working on a car or anything else. I've used it on my AR as well and I practically don't need to go for anything else... except a screw driver cause of how uncomfortable the bits are to use here. They work in a pinch or when you need to do one small thing that it's not worth getting a screw driver; if you've ever used any sort of bits on any tool that isn't specifically made for those bits you know what I mean.

All in all a fantastic and highly versatile tool. The price is a bit much but if you're the kind of person that doesn't lose their tools (I had my first knife from eight years old until I was 20 when I did eventually lose it to carelessness) then this one will more than pay for itself and will do so quickly anyway. I bought this one myself shortly after it was available and after checking weekly to see when it was going to drop from when I first heard about it in December 2010.

If I were you I'd check out the other two Leatherman multitools in this family but for me this one wins out. Any way you go you will find this to be a fantastic, top of the line tool; no other multitool manufacturer comes close to Leatherman's MUT multitools in my opinion.

Final notes: works great, versatile, looks badass, good weight to it also.

I'm an avid AR-15 shooter and gunsmith; I'm also a big fan of Leatherman tools.
Be it the Zombie Apocalypse or a trip to the supermarket I always have a Leatherman on me.
But it won't be this one.
It's just kind of gimmicky. Seemingly more concerned with being tac-cool than really performing.
First; its not really useful as an AR tool. It doesn't really provide much that I my Leatherman Charge TTi can't do.
Ya its got a punch, but only a big one, so a standard driver bit could do the trick too.
One of the features that made me buy the MUT is the extra bits it carries.
Outside of the knife and pliers, various driver bits are what I need the most. The problem with the MUT is that the retention and extraction of these bits are awkward in the field. Awkward to remove and use, awkward to re-secure. It's frustrating; they are either tricky to get our or to get back in. Impossible to do with gloves on. And they are black so good luck finding them when you drop `em. Leatherman should have made these permanent tools in common AR sizes. Perhaps dropping the useless punch and the brass scraper which broke off the first time I used it.
The MOLLE pouch is cool.
Overall; I'm a bit disappointed. When you design a tool to operate in a combat environment it should be:
A: Easy to use; no parts to get lost.
B. Easy to operate with gloves.
C. Very tough.
The base tool of the MUT; its blade and pliers will last forever. The rest of this will be broken in no time.

This is a very well thought out piece of kit its not cheap but it will last you a lifetime if properly taken care of like all leatherman tools. I keep this in my primary range bag and has most of the common tools you would need to adjust just about anything on a rifle. This is heavy but it does replace lots of other things you would normally carry in your range bag and has everything you might forget in one spot. I'm very happy with this tool and would by it again in a heartbeat. The Molle sheath seems to be of good quality too I can't tell where it's made but seems GTG.

Edit: I wanted to add that there is also a Glock take down punch available for this tool now. This is great news for anyone that owns Glocks like myself. I wanted to add also that the bit accessory kit and extension is also a good thing to buy to go along with this excellent tool. The kit comes with 2 separate holders but includes both metric and inch on some attachments. I have it down to 1 by getting rid of the unnecessary metric crap and redundant attachments that are already on the tool. It still all fits in the Sheath.

This is the perfect multi-tool that is just a bit smaller than the bulky mega-tools. It also has a sleeker look and finish. It is incredibly practical. 2 thumbs up. The sheath is a little bulky but you don't really need it; the clip is really strong and fits comfortably in your pocket.

I recently received a MUT, and noticed that the plastic piece that the bronze scraper rests against was broken. I phoned Leatherman Customer Service, and spoke with Shelly (spelling?). I explained to Shelly what the problem was. I also said that I did not wish to send the tool to Leatherman for repair or replacement, and that all I needed was a replacement for the broken piece and the correct sized Allen wrench for the retaining screw. Shelly said she would look into the matter. In a very short time Shelly called back to tell me that Leatherman was sending me what I needed for the repair. 5 days later I received the following: 2 plastic replacement pieces, 3 extra retaining screws, an Allen wrench ( that fit the retaining screw) AND a 1/4" hex head bit that also fit the screws. All without any cost to me! Now THAT IS CUSTOMER SERVICE! Thank you Leatherman and especially Shelly!

I am currently deployed to Afghanistan and wanted a good multi tool for my M16 and just all around work. the tool it self is fantastic and does what its meant to do very well. however when using the strike plate the set screws will come loose and if you dont have security torx wrenches you are out of luck and will have a floppy MUT.

Very nice multi-tool. MUT made in U.S.A., and pouch Made in China. Not sure why product which I received was used...Maybe a well used demo from somewhere (dirt inside cleaning brush insert, broken punch, and missing wrench). Called vendor and he said this ships from a third party outside his control (?). Ended up returning product directly to Leatherman due to 25-year warranty. New flawless MUT shipped back to me within a week. Any part which has high wear can be replaced.

I purchase this because I wanted a multi tool to carry when driving atvs in the desert. This tool has the bonus of being particularly useful for use with my ar-15. The tool does everything you expect from a leatherman and also clean an m4 bolt free stuck actions scrape carbon punch drift pins etc. If you shoot this is a great multi tool.
