For those of you irked by the conversion from a 5-pin to an 11-pin standard, a cheap solution is here. Worked (nearly) flawlessly with my Galaxy SIII. For some reason the first time I connected the adapter directly to the MHL cable, then to the phone I received no signal on my HDTV. Fearing I had purchased the wrong item, I tried attaching the adapter to the phone first, then MHL cable and a beautiful, sharp image instantly appeared on my screen. No settings to tweak or helper programs to run. This thing just works. Refresh rates are smooth. Changes in orientation between landscape and portrait are near instant. You may have to play with your screen zoom settings, as some of the screen margins appear truncated when in portrait mode. Overall a solid buy.

I was really worried whether this product would work or not. I had bought the Skiva micro-usb to HDMI adapter while my Galaxy Note 2 was on pre-order. I later found out that the Galaxy S III and the Galaxy Note II use an 11 pin micro-usb instead of the old standard 5 pin. When my Note II finally came in, much to my assumption the HDMI cable didn't work. Not wanting to shell out a ton of money, I found this Adapter. I know some people had problems on the S III but it worked beautifully with my Note II. I put a program on my Note II to force Landscape and I can fit my entire Home Screen beautifully on my 73" TV. The only thing I don't like about the adapter is the size. I have to remove my case because it is so bulky right up against the phone. Other than that, works wonderfully for me.

I thought my Galaxy S3 would use the same MHL adapter as every other phone with hdmi out. I was wrong. The pins are different. This adapter solves the issue and allows me to plug in a standard MHL adapter. Its one more piece, but it is small and works fine. Watched netflix on my tv with it yesterday. I would definitely recommend it if you already have a usb to hdmi cable from another phone that you want to use or are just looking for a slightly less expensive option compared to getting a new phone-specific cable from Samsung. It seems to kind of silly of Samsung to change their pin arrangement for this phone especially when everyone else is pretty much following the same standard. This adapter for your standard adapter makes it work though.

Tested with my MHL and works perfectly. Saved me from buying the new S3 only EPL module for the new pin design. Highly recommended for saving money.

All the data needed is present and transmitted, so why can't manufacturers just standardize these outs?

Grrr.

Regardless, this adapter is sturdy, compact (very tiny--in a good way), and works as it should.

I needed it to interface with my car stereo, and it does the job perfectly.

I thought I was buying an adaptor that would allow me to connect directly to my TV from my Samsung Galaxy S3 phone which (according to Samsung) has HDMI capability. Turns out that in order to use this device I need to buy another device in order to do what I intended. This device..DOES NOT connect directly to your HDMI TV. You will need another adaptor in order to do this. Since I have not done this successfully yet..I cannot tell you what you need. So read, research and make sure you understand what you have and what you need..BEFORE you buy this device.. Low rating because seller could have done a better job of describing this item and making clear what it does and what is required to use it.. Also packaging was very poor..very little padding and what looks like tire tracks all over the envelope. I'm lucky the thing wasn't crushed. Buyer beware!

I purchased this item with the expectations that it would work with the galaxy S3 and the pioneer app radio 2. Once the item arrived it and I attached it to the existing wires it created a snow effect much like when N old TV has no signal. After researching I purchased an OFFICIAL Samsung mhl adapter. It works and my app radio 2 and my S3 play nice together now. Please note there are 2 Samsung mhl adapters one is a fake and one is not. Please refer to the ARLiberator forums for pictures of the 2 packages side by side so you know which is which.
