I picked up one of these about 2 weeks ago. I didnt get it on Amazon, but I wanted to leave a review anyway. It is not a bad truck overall I guess, but you will need to replace a few parts pretty quick. Alot of reviews on various forum sites will tell you that the steering servos are very weak and break quick. I am here to say that is 100% true in my case. Just using this truck in my living room chasing the dog, I wore out both servo motors and had to order hi torque servos so they would not break again. That is my only real complaint. Those things are not cheap for the ones you need to use with a rock crawler.

The battery is a bit hard to install. If you only have 1 battery, you can leave it installed and just charge it from there. RedCat has an upgrade part to resolve this. It's just hard to get to with the velcro, and they sell metal clips to install in their place. I highly recommend them.

Be aware that the box this comes in may be for the old RS10. A few things to look at up front to ensure you have the XT model is the wing over the front servo. If you dont have it, your good. They removed that piece for the XT. Also, your motors should be 390. The old RS10 had 380. Unfortunately, there isnt much of a way to tell what motors you have. The instructions are helpful for getting started, but not so helpful with anything else. Although they do give you a parts breakdown should you need to replace anything.

When you put this in 4 wheel steering mode and make a sharp turn, the RS10 XT may tip over. To resolve this, I bought a set of stiffer shock springs and replaced the stock ones. No more tipping and the truck will still flex just as much. Its pretty neat.

Overall this is a great truck. I would give it 4 or 5 stars if you didnt have to replace so much stuff right off. I would have rather paid a little more and had better parts out of the box. However, even with buying the upgraded parts, you still dont pay as much as the other brands out there. And the truck is just as good once you upgrade the servos and shocks. So compared to those, this is a very good deal. I recommend the Hi Tec 645 Hi Torque servo. I just picked up 2 of them last night on Amazon. Those will give you good durability with this setup. If you plan on building this for competition, I would go with something a little more high end with the servo. The truck itself is ready.

I HIGHLY recommend getting a battery charger. The one that comes with this thing takes anywhere from 5-8 hours to charge. The battery will last you about 20 minutes or so of basic crawling. Id say 15 minutes on average. With a aftermarket charger, you only wait 1 hr instead of 5 to get back out there for more fun. Worth it to me. A great beginner level truck to get into the Hobby.

I have owned this little truck going on about 6 months now and have had a blast with. Contrary to what some say about this truck, it is as durable as any other RTR crawler out there. The only Thing I have broken on mine is the plastic piece on the end of the front lower link. (this is because I was crossing a wire bridge 4 ft off the ground without a spotter. It fell pretty hard)

I have actually done somewhat OK in competitions also. Although, I have modified for comps. The things I have changed on my Rockslide are:

1: Hot Body Tires
2: Wheel Weights
3: Locked the rear steer (removed servo and pinned in place)
4: Trimmed The Body For New Tires

I have been very happy with it and would recommend any wanting to get into crawling start here and expand after that.

After doing some reasearch online about the Redcat company and the RS10 crawler i decided to purchase one. I would say I am no stanger to the RC world but RC crawling looked like the fun new way to RC. Best bang for the buck, no doubt! I looked at other crawlers that were priced 2x, 3x as much and the RS10 is the *exact same machine* but with a "cheaper" company name, thats it! If your interested in RC crawling, buy this machine. The money saved will do wonders for when you want to invest in "hop-up" parts.

this is the best deal out there for a ready to run crawler, I have been in the rc hobbies since 1984 and have had a lot of big name crawlers over the years, axial wraith, honcho, jeep wrangler, and a couple of losi's, etc. and with a couple of cheap mods this RS 10 keeps up with the best of them, and the best part, you can buy 2 of these plus have enough left over to buy a couple of mods for the price of one axial crawler. the RS10 has a lot going for it from the get go it a has a really solid aluminum box frame with a lot of different configuration options, pretty decent oil filled shocks, metal four link suspension, and the thing I really like, REAL BEADLOCK RIMS! with heavy metal beadlock rings. the first mod I do on these is a cheap $12 metal gear servo, you can get one for a kyosho inferno on amazon for around $10 dollars, they bolt right on and have gobs of power! then bend the motor wires in and zip tie them to make room for all the extra turning radius you now have! then upgrade the battery with a higher voltage, these will handle up to 3s 11.1 volt lipo, and let me tell you, that really wakes this truck up! the gears hold up great with brushed power, but they make optional metal gears if you decide to step up to brushless power later on. all the after market bodies will fit this truck, easy to change the wheelbase if needed, also you can cut some of the lugs out of the stock tires to add more traction in the dirt, if you decide to buy one of these crawlers, check out rccrawler.com its a really good forum with a whole section devoted to the redcat rs10 crawler! buy one! you will not regret it!

We purchased the redcoat for our 14 year old son who had outgrown the off the self rc cars several years back. The redcoat is good for older kids and adults as it more like a a real truck than a toy. Users should know that it has working parts that need to be kept up and repairs come with use. their are parts that can break just like your real truck when out on the trail. My husband enjoys this as much as my son and we plan to get him one now too. My son does love the redcat be prepared to spend more on modifications , new bigger tires , suspension upgrades, etc. It has turned into a new family hobby for us so we are happy we got it. Ordering it was super easy and fast and so far getting parts and upgrades has been easy online. Be aware that owner or someone close must have good knowledge of mechanics working on these are part of the fun. But could be difficult without tools and knowledge... Overall Great fun.

Good looking truck, seems to be a well built chassis, have not used it but 4 battery charges. The tires turn and pull the wires off of the motors. You can trim the radio enough to prevent this. The steering servo is making noise sounds like gears broken. I have not run this truck but a couple of hours. I bought two of these at the same time and the other one has been used by my 11 year old son with several hours of run time with no problems at all. Overall a good truck for the money I just think I got a lemon.

I bought this for my son, not really expecting a whole lot. I have high end R/C crawlers he can move up to later, but to completely blunt about it- I can't justify the high end expense any more after trying out this far cheaper alternative. Sure, the servos aren't terribly strong, but they can be swapped for better ones if/when they fail. The tires aren't great, but they can be modified or changed out as my son's skills improve. With a couple minor changes, I'm positive this rig will compete quite well with my others which cost at LEAST twice as much, and as much as FOUR times as much. Maybe the durability won't be there, but so far it seems to be fine...
What it comes down to is the value- it's the best value out there at this time and it can be modified to grow with skill levels- ultimately still being far less expensive and just as capable.
I'm impressed.

Ok, the shell of the vehicle that looks like the body of a truck... may as well throw it away strait off. It is so... how do you say it nicely... rinky-dink. The very first day, my son gave up on it, and I haven't seen it back on the frame since then.

That being said, this thing is awesome. None of us are pro- or semi-pro RC folks, or even serious hobbyists. We play with a bunch of different toy-class RC cars, trucks, boats, robots, whatever, so we probably aren't the final word on what makes a great and serious RC car. However, stepping up a bit from a regular RC rig, this thing just rocks. It goes over and through terrain we would never have considered before. I can say without a doubt that this new Redcat Racing Rockslide RS10 XT has already been played with, during our short ownership of the unit, than all our others combined - ever. It is that much more fun than anything else we have ever had.

If they would put a real-ish shell on this thing, it would be every boy's dream... the Red Ryder BB gun of the this generation.

Son took it out of the box and lasted about 4 minutes. The rear steering stopped working and started smoking. My other Red cat is great so this must be bad luck.
