The light for my GE Profile JVM1790SK Convection Over-the-Range Microwave Oven died about 6 months ago, and I saw the part number was discontinued, and this was the replacement. But the wattage looked higher than the old one specified in the manual (the manual says to "Replace with 120 volt, 40 watt (max) halogen bulb. Order WB08X10051"). Anyway, I went to Home Depot and got the replacement for the old part number (I think it was a Sylvania). That one was definitely brighter than the old one. It got kind of hot, actually. And the dim setting wasn't as dim as I would have liked (I use it as a night light). And it burned out in about 6 months (I got 2 years out of the factory light).

But this one (even though it's the new part number) performs JUST like the old one - same brightness (I have 2 settings) as the factory light. It's exactly what I needed. I've seen some complaints about it, I can't imagine why. If you have the same oven as mine, or your manual specs the same discontinued part # as mine did - WB08X10051 - this one is a perfect replacement.

The 2 item numbers corresponding to these 2 different light bulbs are not interchangeable. One in place of the other works or, should I say, turns on, as it only has 2 settings, on and off. My microwave takes the bulb ending with 1 in the item number. I received the bulb ending with 7, so I do not have both the "bright" and the "night" settings, basically bright, dim, and off.

On the bright side, I did get the bulb quickly and it was well-packaged, and given that it will burn out sooner or later, I'll just make sure to get the correct one next time.

The old bulb lasted about five years; not bad for a halogon bulb. Ordered this replacement, plugged it in, it fit, it lit, I can see what I am cooking again. Technology that works! What a concept.

The bulbs came quickly securely packed. We were concerned that they wouldnt work in our oven, but the bulb has been on for a few weeks and the wife is happy. The price was fair and this customer is happy.

A few years ago I replaced my WB08X10051 in my JVM1790SK following the instructions, and it woofed the motherboard for the electronics. Had a GE repairman come, and he said while it's not in the replacement instructions, you should unplug the unit first. He said he's seen this often. After spending over a hundred bucks to have the motherboard & light bulb replaced, things went along swimmingly. When the light bulb died again recently, I bought this replacement (WB08X10057) and forgot to unplug the Microwave. Ouch. The light was then was on all the time. Luckily I purchased two bulbs. I unplugged the unit, put in the second bulb (always use a tissue when handling) plugged it in, and everything is as it should be. I have bright, nightlite & off. And yes, this bulb is 50 watts, not 40. Seems OK though.

Lesson from GE repairman: unplug the unit before you replace the bulb.

I usually don't write reviews, I only read them before buying. But this item deserves one because of the nature of the product.
1. In some reviews people complain about this not being the correct replacement for their bulb. I guess that this is because they don't know what bulb they are replacing, or they don't have the correct model number of their appliance. I bought this replacement bulb for a GE GE PROFILE™ 1.7 CU. FT. CONVECTION OVER-THE-RANGE MICROWAVE OVEN Model JVM1790BK and the bulb I removed from my microwave was marked as 130V 50W. The new bulb that I received today have to exact same marking on it.
2. In some reviews I read that it is not working properly after replacing the bulb. However I took note of some people saying that you should unplug the appliance before replacing the bulb, because it might fry your electronics. I did just that and it is working as good as the original. When I press the Surface Light button it works in the following sequence: 1. on high 2. on low 3. off. It worked this way with the old bulb and it is working the same way with the new bulb.
Notes: It arrived on time, and was installed with ease.

I took the number from the owners manual of my microwave to purchase the bulb from Amazon. When the bulb arrived it was packaged with the correct number but the bulb was twice as large as the original. I didn't complain or ask for a refund as it would have cost me more than the $5.50 to drive and pay for postage as I will just have to chalk this one as a bad purchase.

There were some negatives about this bulb from other reviewers that indicated that this bulb was not the right bulb as indicated by the factory product code. I have found the bulb as sold to be an exact replacement bulb that works just fine. It's hard to believe that some companies pay people to make toxic comments about their competitors' products. I assure you I am just a consumer who was looking to replace a bulb in my cooktop. No hidden agenda!
