3.0 out of 5 stars Early T-Bone Burnett, October 30, 2008
The Alpha Band was the band that T-Bone
Burnett headed in the 1970's, about the same time that he played with Bob Dylan in the Rolling Thunder Revue. Interesting that, since the difference between the music he played with Bob then and this music is sometimes glaring, though not certainly not always. The biggest difference is that the Alpha Band was avowedly Christian in their outlook, and like Bob would do a few years later, their message is not always very subtle. Not necessarily a bad thing, if it's done right, but here that's not always the case. (See "Rich Man" or "Perverse Generation") But the band also does some covers, notably Hank Williams' "Thank God" that holds up well, along with several other originals. See also their album "Spark in the Dark"
Tracks: Tick Tock/Rich Man/Mighty Man/Perverse Generation/Two Sisters/Two People in the Modern World/Back in my baby's arms/Thank God
