I wish ... how I wish ... I had come across the poetry of Olga Caturla de la Maza many years ago! In her book "All The Sea For My Dreams" we can feel how, early in her exile from Cuba, in a mood of "desolate nostalgia for the homeland", the poet in her became suddenly aware that the singing of the birds ... the warm sun ... the green leaves ... the perfume of lilacs ... were like "drops of yesterday", and she was able, through Nature, to harmonize her past and her present, and from this harmony re-create her experiences in extraordinarily beautiful, sensitive poetry.
