I'd probably go with something cheaper since the child is young. Something from maybe Digipro brand? Under $50. This may be a cheaper Wacom, but it seems more like something for a teenager and up. I mean, if she's gentle with things like this, I suppose it might be a good choice. I know the Art Studio software that comes with this tablet would be practical for an 8 year old. You'd just have to make sure she's gentle with the pen pressure, the fabric pen-holder loop, and very, very careful with the tablet's micro usb port that the cable plugs into. I'm 22, and I've had mine for 2 weeks and I've somehow managed to have my port become loose already. This is coming from someone who was being extra cautious because of a very similar issue with a previous tablet. But that took over a year before the cable connection had issues. This one has taken under a month of usage.
