If anyone in America remembers the excellent British adaptation of Sartre's Roads to Freedom (BBC 1970, repeated just once in 1976) and wonders why it has never been shown again or released on video or DVD, you might like to know there is an active forum over at Amazon.co.uk where these questions are being asked.
You might also be interested to know that the series was NOT wiped by the BBC as was commonly rumoured for decades. The entire series was shown by the British Film Institute in May 2012 (a good thing, of course, but this was just a one-off event in London). We are now campaigning to get the BBC either to release it on DVD or show it on tv. Over the years it has been extremely difficult to get any sensible answers from the BBC about the series which is probably what led to the rumour that the tapes had been destroyed.
Any information or comments about this would be very welcome. There is also an active forum under Roads to Freedom at IMDb. Lets hope that before too long we can finally see this series again after 35 years, and that younger generations of people can enjoy it as well.
