Anything black sabbath. Talk about an incredibly genre changing/creating group. Sabbath has one of the best drum/bass duos of all time.

Steely Dan.

It requires some serious listening time to warm up to this progressive band, but its some high quality, precise music that really hits the spot if you are in the mood. Very rewarding music.

 Y. Vikulova says:
Tried to put them in order from best:
1. Jean-Michel Jarre - Equinoxe IV
2. Jean-Michel Jarre - Oxygene IV
3. Jean-Jacques Perrey - Passport To The Future
4. Aleksei Rybnikov - Lestnica V Nebo (means: Ladder To The Sky)
5. Pink Floyd - Another Brick In The Wall (Part 2)
6. Space - Just Blue
7. The Clash - Hateful
8. Kraftwerk - Das Modell
9. Vangelis - La Petite Fille De La Mer
10. Jean-Jacques Perrey - Hello, Dolly
11. Eduard Artemyev - Pohod (from "Sibiriade")
12. The Alan Parsons Project - Lucifer
13. Droids - (Do You Have) The Force
14. Space - Magic Fly
15. Pink Floyd - The Trial
16. Aleksei Rybnikov - Ty Mne Verish (means: Do You Belive Me)
17. Space Art - Onyx
18. Tangerine Dream - Force Majeure
19. The Clash - Koka Kola
20. The Clash - London Calling

Jean-Michel Jarre creates his most famous work "Oxygen."
Jean-Jacques Perrey is one of the pioneers of electronic music, this is my favorite track by him.
Aleksei Rybnikov (sometimes written Alexei Rybnikov; Russian doesn't appear properly on this website) is one of the best Russian soundtrack composers. The first song (#4) is from the movie "That Munchhausen" (1979), the other one is from "Bolshoe kosmicheskoe puteshestvie" (means: Big Cosmic Adventure).
Eduard Artemyev is also soundtrack composer, he wrote music to "Solaris" and "Stalker". This track from "Sibiriade" was remixed by several bands, most famously by PPK.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Pink Floyd, they also write probably their best work.
The Clash writes their most famous album, "London Calling" in 1979.
Space is Didier Marouani band. Famous in old school electronic circles.
Tangerine Dream is one of the founders of berlin school. Klaus Schulze also appears in the 70s, but I haven't listened to his early albums.
Greek composer Vangelis can be heard everywhere with the climax of his 1982 "Chariots of Fire". "La petite fille de la mer" is a beautiful track from "L'apocalypse des animaux" (1973).

I forgot to mention, I also like "The Show Must Go On" by Three Dog Night. The only song I like by them.
