5.0 out of 5 stars The most touching story of a mother and her son
This book is such an enjoyable read. The first time I read it was while babysitting several young children. I did not make it to the end of the book before I started shedding a tear. It is just so touching. It is the best book in demonstrating just how important a mother's touch is and the appreciation that the son has for his mother. He in turn, does the same...

1.0 out of 5 stars I got the creeps
I believe I am in the minority on this one, but I really thought this was a terrible book. I think it portrays an unhealthy relationship between mother and child. My friend's son got this book for his 3rd birthday from his aunt and we read it and thought she must be nuts (well she is a little :) Yes, I believe children need unconditional love, but with appropriate...

This book is such an enjoyable read. The first time I read it was while babysitting several young children. I did not make it to the end of the book before I started shedding a tear. It is just so touching. It is the best book in demonstrating just how important a mother's touch is and the appreciation that the son has for his mother. He in turn, does the same for her as she ages. I am 22 years old and I love the book so much that I bought it for myself. I too hope that someday it affects my children the way it affects me.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really sweet..., July 20, 2005

I just read my son to sleep with this book, and it's so beautiful! I only had one year of college French and I could read it, although there were a few phrases here and there that I was reading without knowing what they meant. I did get a bit choked up at the end. I especially love that the mother grows old because we don't often see older folks in such a beautiful light in our culture. I was a little afraid the book might touch on the subject of death, which is a little heavy yet, but it didn't.

The previous reviewer who thought it was creepy was probably referring to one page where the mom drives to her adult son's new home and climbs up into his window to hold him in her arms and sing to him. It was pretty clear to me that it was a tongue-in-cheek continuance of the rhythm of the book, where she holds him and sings to him each night. It's still a beautiful book, and in my opinion by no means creepy.

5.0 out of 5 stars I RECOMMEND READING THIS BOOK TO PEOPLE OF ALL AGES., April 28, 1998

This review is from: Je t'aimerai toujours (French Edition) (Paperback)
THE FIRST TIME I READ THIS I WAS IN A DEPARTMENT STORE WITH MY TWO CHILDREN, 9 & 10. I CRIED WHEN I READ THIS BOOK RIGHT THERE IN THE STORE. I BOUGHT IT AND READ IT AGAIN TO MY CHILDREN AT BEDTIME AND CRIED AGAIN. IT REALLY TOUCHES THE HEART OF ANYONE READING IT. IT MAKES YOU REALIZE ANEW WHAT IS REALLY INPORTANT. LOVE. IT ALSO REMINDS YOU OF THE FACT THAT THE SEEDS YOU PLANT ARE THE ONES THAT YOU WILL HARVEST. THIS IS AN ABSOLUTELY LOVELY BOOK. IT WILL BE TREASURED IN OUR HOME FOR MANY, MANY YEARS. I ENJOY READING IT TO MYSELF JUST TO REMIND MYSELF THAT THERE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THINGS THAN MONEY, JOBS, CHORES. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE MORE BOOKS OF THIS NATURE. THANK YOU SO MUCH.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love You Forever reminds you of what's important in life., June 19, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Je t'aimerai toujours (French Edition) (Paperback)
The first time I read "Love You Forever" was in the bookstore when my 8 year old grandaughter handed it to me, sat on my lap, and asked me to read it. By the time I got to the page where the son was holding his mother in his arms, I had to keep dabbing my eyes because of the tears. When I've mentioned the book to other women the reaction is always the same. It's almost impossible to make it through the book without bringing tears to your eyes. From the time she becomes a mother, the main character in this book holds her precious child on her lap and rocks him back and forth and vows to love him forever. As he grows older and eventually goes away she still continues rocking him and tells him that she'll love him forever. The day finally comes when she is old and unable to rock her son and the torch is passed to him. He holds his mother and rocks her and at this point you can only assume that she has died. With that, he returns home where he picks up his baby girl and begins the same routine. This book will surely tug at your heart. Marsha Baskey

This is such a cute book, and a good translation of the original English. The translation keeps all the rhymes and the basic idea, which is cute unto itself. :)

5.0 out of 5 stars Ce livre est autant destiné aux enfants qu'aux parents, December 31, 2010

This review is from: Je t'aimerai toujours (French Edition) (Paperback)

5.0 out of 5 stars Tres Bien!, November 18, 2007
This review is from: Je t'aimerai toujours (French Edition) (Paperback)
I read this book in English before naptime, and in French before bedtime and my girls are actually finishing sentences in both books (in their respective languages)! The book is touching, moving, and elicits emotion from even the most veteran parent. Merci~

5.0 out of 5 stars Such a special book - for both you and your child, October 21, 2011

I can't speak highly enough of this book - I'd even go so far as to call it a masterpiece of children's literature.
I bought it about a week ago because I'm trying to expose my baby daughter to as many languages as possible at this particularly fertile time in her brain's development. Reading the many great reviews this book got, I decided to purchase it and I just now read it to my daughter before her nap. Like most others, I was in tears by the end. In fact, I was so moved that I felt I had to come straight to the computer and write a review. That is how powerful it is. This book is not just a great way to begin teaching your child another language - it is a great way to begin teaching your child about the cycle of life and the lifelong bonds that parents and children develop. It is a book that makes a poignant point only the adults can truly grasp and understand - but it brings home life lessons that I believe are important to teach children...that your parents love you and will take care of you no matter what, but also that people grow old and sick and someday, the tables turn...that your parents need you just as much as you need them. I feel like calling my parents and telling them I love them.
Only the great books can make you feel like that.
