Can you take the 24 inch chain-mate saw as carryon luggage I am planning a backpacking trip and don't want to check in any luggage. Does anyone know if the chain-mate 24 inch pocket chain saw will pass TSA and be allowed on carry on luggage on airplane.

Thanks.

No it will not. I tried to have family members bring me one on their flight. They were not aware that it had to be put in checked baggage and were told that it could not be in their carry on. They had to put it in their vehicle as the bags were already checked and it stayed behind.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that its sharp edges and metal construction would be an issue. You are unlikely to get that through the security checkpoint. However, when backpacking it is always a good idea to have several items that don't make it through security check points. You should have some kind of knife/cutting blade, and your first aid kit should probably have scissors.

Anyhow, that is my take on it.
