My thailand salesperson says you can mount an external mike on the flash shoe of the g15(evidently true of videocams) True? Any experience? Thanks.

You can download the manual for the Canon PowerShot G15 from the Canon site. It is physically possible to mount an external microphone on the camera, but there is no jack for auxiliary audio, so it can't be connected to the camera. This is a jacket-pocket Point-and-Shoot still camera; the video capability is a bonus. If you want a video camera, Canon has several available in the similar price range.

Mike=microphone? I really don't know. Just know about external flashes, it has the adapter for them. Sorry. :(
