As a virtual student at King's College London, I've studied War in the Modern World for three years now. (I still have the dissertation to go.) My conclusion: War sucks. Get over it. Men will shoot one another until the last cartridge is expended, and then they'll turn to knives again. The best we can do is try to ameliorate the consequences.
