JUNCTION CITY - About 800 Lane County residents were unable to report emergencies via telephone land lines on Monday after metal thieves stole about 470 feet of Qwest phone line along High Pass Road west of Junction City.
Police and fire officials advised affected residents with emergencies to report them in person to either Lane Rural Fire Station No. 53 or to the Junction City Fire Station. Volunteers were available to take emergency reports at the two fire stations and then relay them to the Central Lane 911 Center by radio, officials said.
