This is a cold mount meaning it doesn't communicate with the camera. The mount on it is universal full size. I think the HF m50 has an optional accessory shoe you have to order. Not sure if its universal or some proprietary "mini" shoe though.

Just leaving this for other users/potential buyers. I own the HF M50. Canon has a mini shoe mount and this video light uses a standard cold shoe. You can purchase an adapter for around $10 not including any potential extra postage at the writing of this comment or you can purchase one of those video brackets with a standard cold shoe mount on the top to mount the light or use any other type of set up where you have a cold shoe mount to attach the light. I have a Stroboframe and use it on that.
