La joven modista Sira Quiroga abandona Madrid en los meses previos al lanzamiento, arrastrada por el amor desbocado hacia un hombre a quien apenas conoce. Juntos se instalan en Tanger, una ciudad mundana, exotica y vibrante donde todo lo impensable puede hacerse realidad. Incluso, la traicion y el abandono. Sola y acuciada por deudas ajenas, Sira se traslada a Tetuan, la capital del Protectorado espanol en Marruecos. Entre todos ellos la empujaran hacia un arriesgado compromiso en el que las telas, las puntadas y los patrones de su oficio se convertiran en la fachada visible de algo mucho mas turbio y peligroso. Escrita en una prosa esplendida, El tiempo entre costuras avanza con ritmo imparable por los mapas, la memoria y la nostalgia, transportandonos hasta los legendarios enclaves coloniales del norte de africa, al Madrid proaleman de la inmediata posguerra y a una Lisboa cosmopolita repleta de espias, oportunistas y refugiados sin rumbo.

A fabulous novel covering from the years previous to the Spanish Civil War to the end of the WWII, with scenes covering Madrid, Tanger and Tetuan, Madrid again and Lisbon to finally return to Madrid once again, with intrigue and history development with a formal bibliography of the non fictional aspects of the book which give a hard backbone to the fiction of the novel. In Spanish works just fine even her author has a PhD in English literature and applies many of the techniques used in English to this very Spanish novel. Easy reading and wonderful experience. Uno de los mejores libros que he leido. A traves de la protagonista, vives en primera persona los tristes sucesos de la guerra civil española. Imposible dejar de leer. Bravo Bárbara!

Excellent novel, delightful and exciting reading.....also of historical value about the Spanish Civil war and the years of WWII. The influence of Germany and Britain in Morrocco, Spain and Portugal. I wish a translation in English could be available soon.
