sorry to say to the fans out there that have been waiting for this guy, don't give your hopes up.
just got my pre-order today from toys r us. absolute rubbish :( been looking forward to this thing for 5 years now, i'm really bummed out. the creators had a really great concept, but mass production did it no favors. guess i shoulda known better since it ended up being a toys r us exclusive. $50 is way too much for this thing, $30 might have been a little easier to swallow the suffering.
my biggest gripe is that it seems to have about as much memory as a casio calculator watch... pause 2 seconds to listen to the music, dance for about 5-10 seconds, pause again, rinse repeat. side by side with the spoon video [...] its not even remotely close. occasionally it looks like it's having epileptic fits...
it's cute to look at, other than that it's a total waste:
- loud motor (turn that music up if you want to hear it over the motor...)
- jerky movements
- the base seems sturdy enough, but the touch sensors feels like something a kid would break super easily
- TAKES 8 AA BATTERIES (what is this a rc car from the 80s???)
- the 'bleeps & bloops' it makes when waking or shutting down are awfully loud and have no volume control
- none of the images or videos i've seen online give you a sense of scale either (at ~1ft high, it's way bigger than i expected)
- touch mode is even worse than music mode... most of the time you've gotta hold down the base to be able to push the sensor hard enough for it to respond.
i'll try to leave a video review tomorrow, to it to work in music mode requires the volume to be way too loud for this time of night... :/ might be ok if you're djing at a club or party, but this is definitely not office friendly!
guess i might hack it and see if i can improve it in anyway. (note: turning it off is already an improvement...)
sorry for the bad news everyone :( maybe they'll make a 2.0 version, i'd gladly pay $100+ to get one that worked properly.
