This is an emulation game of the late 70s early 80s. Like in the football game the objective is to move the ball 10 yards at least in a total of 4 downs. The game goes on until you run out of downs our score a touchdown. If the computer stops you, she will get 7 points. The game end when the timer runs out. The one with most points at the end wins the game. The strategy is to patiently wait on one spot until the defenses open a hole that you can exploit and start running through left to right and avoid being tackled by the defenders. Except for the 9v battery and the plastic buttons this is the way I remember this game.

This is a perfect copy of the original 1978 Mattel Football. It's nice to see a fully licensed version instead of a knockoff. The same tricks seem to work. Also has simulated wear on buttons if that's what you'd like. Surprised and happy to see this as the FAOTD.

I'm not old enough to have played a physical LED Football handheld (other than the GameBoy, the major LCD handhelds of my time were the old Tiger Electronics or R-Zone units), but I installed out of curiousity. I obviously can't vouch for its authenticity, but I can say that the game is simple and entertaining. Controls are responsive, and the game runs well on my low end device. The game is fairly straightforward (get your QB from one end of the field to the other, dodging opposing players), but it still requires a little strategic thought.
Simulated button wear and battery drain are pretty cool features that show that the developer strove to recreate the original handheld experience as closely as possible.

... And I know what I'm talking about because I have 2 of the actual original mattel versions. This is a perfect simulation of that original handheld game. Now if they would just make the coleco one. I would be super happy because I liked that one better back in the day. How anyone could rate this below 5 stars is beyond me as this is a near perfect simulation of the original.
