Editorial Reviews

Review

“…a delightful little book…whether you’re at home in the kitchen or a novice behind the counter, there’s something in this sweet volume of recipes for everyone…you will find plenty of tips and tricks on baking, wrapping and packaging. There are recipes for those with the sweetest of sweet tooths and plenty for those who prefer something more savory. It would look great in your kitchen!” –Entertaining House

“The book is creative and playful” –Mission: Food

“Her recipes are simple but special–as they should be for a gift. While mostly sweets, Carter includes some savory recipes as well–pretzels, oatcakes, and flavored salts. Even when the recipe has the potential to be more complicated or at least sound as though it is, Carter keeps it simple.” –Appetite for Books

“I could sit down and read trEATs every day with a cup of tea. Lovely photos that are rustic and charming. The recipes are all quite easy to follow and varied. This is a book that I can see myself gifting both the book and the recipes…charming book.” –Chocolate&Croissants

After reading this sweet little book from cover to cover, I found so many great recipes and ideas! April has gone to great detail to provide easy to follow instructions. The photographs in the book are wonderful and tempt me to make each and every recipe in the book. I love to give mini gifts and favors to friends, family members and co-workers so this really was a "must own" to add to my collection of books.

Anxiously awaiting volume 2. :)

Photos are nice, recipes are simple enough, but the overall concept is lacking. The title is "make at home", and homemade to me implies that something is better quality and/or healthier than what you'd get at a supermarket bakery. This is nothing of the sort, there is nothing healthy about it. Every item is "junk food". If that is what you're looking for, fine, but you'd be better off with a more specific book. If you're looking to make donuts and cakes, get a baking book. The abundance of low quality ingredients or partially pre-prepared and processed items is not what I was hoping for.

Some of the recipes seem interesting but we made the Madelines and they cam out greasy and not at all like they were supposed to.
